I'm a bit curious. In _Secrets of Power_, the first book, Sam Verner
mentioned something about "nega-mages". Has anyone actually put any
thought to what they might be like? Perhaps it's like the "Nega-Psychics"
of the Rifts game?

What they are supposed to be are untrained mages and shamans who are using
thier innate spell defense to drain the energy of spell back into the Astral
plane. However, one of the NAGEEs(the first one, I believe) has additional
rules for the negamage type of character. They are basically immune to
any magic, if I remember correctly.

The "nega-mage" was written up in an issue of White Wolf a couple of years
ago. It worked something like spell defense or shielding, but the way WW
implemented it was hacked (White Wolf seems to specialize in that).

Challenge Magazine also did a new archetype called Nega-Mages a while back
(same as they did one on halflings as a new race one time)

Basically these guys have no astral presence at all, spells simply can't
find them so they don't work (unless it is an area effect manipulation etc
which has a physical effect), spirits can't even see them!! (these guys
could save us from insects maybe?)

Down sides-- no magical healing etc
must spend B priority on magic (Nega magic)
any cyber implants give a cumulative chance of losing the
nega mage powers

anyway that is basically what was in the mag, i can get the issue no. or
specific rules etc if anyone wants them.

yours combinatorially , nghtchld

There was a piece in the letters section of the last issue of KAGE that I
received that talked about some of the game balance problems associated with
having nega-mages in a campaign. I think it was the April issue.

That's right.I saw that issue of Ka-Ge and it basically said FASA hate the
whole idea (for whatever that's worth :-) )
They also said that FASA will never support the concept.

Actually I've had a nega mage in my campaign in the past ( from the
Challenge article) and I have not had any game balance problems. The
pros are all balanced by the cons and it makes a very playable character
especially with a good background story. The only problem comes when a
GM runs a campaign that is heavily magic based.
