Short intro:
I live in Sweden, have played and gamemastered Shadowrun since first
edition. Quit playing Shr shortly after the 3rd ed came out. Been on and
off this list, mostly lurking. And now i am back to GMing this wonderful
game again. :)

Now to my question. How do you on this list use the neighborhood security
rating? Have any of you made a list on how big a chance it would be for a
group to either to see a Lone Star/Other hired Security corporation/Police
patrol, and/or be stopped and searched by one?

TIA

There are rules for police response times in New Seattle, which use the
area's security rating to determine how long it will take for the cops to
show up if something happens (but it's IMHO best to read these in minutes
rather than initiative passes). There are also rules in the Sprawl
Survival Guide to use the security rating as a guide for how often a house
will get broken into, if the GM wants to make players' lives difficult
this way.

I sort of use it with the "Oh Shit" roll when doing random things. Like they
go downtown, roll 2d6 (using the rule of 6). 2-5 is something sort of bad,
10+ is something sort of good, and something way high is good/bad/weird.
Basically a random encounter roll, but in a Class A neighborhood a 5 could
mean an accident on the road ahead or road construction, a 4 could mean a
cop looks over the vehicle if it seems suspicious - in class D 5 would be a
gang or abandoned vehicle blocking the road, 4 would be someone interacts
with the PCs (drive by, hooker, whatever fits the area). That sort of thing.
Never bothered to make a list since I would rather go on the fly than try to
find a list or repeat the same thing over and over.
