Hello All,

I seem to be picking up newbies and one shot players at an alarming rate
for my SR game (every other saturday when I'm gaming with my group
somebody seems to press there face up to the glass window of the gaming
room with that dreamy look on there face and just stay there till I ask
them if they wanna play *sigh*) so to avoid the time I spend explaining
the SR world while my other players are sitting there twiddling there
thumbs and wondering whats for dinner I'm making a newbie packet for my
group and I'd like any suggestions all you listies might have as to what
should go in there right now i'm puttin basic game mechanics and the
little SR history blurb I found on the net a while a go. What else do you
guys think should go in there.

P.S.
Shreddar if you actually survive this run you might want to invest in the
adept power 'danger sense' and take a peek at the Adept Handybook for
some other interesting powers that will save your tail on occasion

I definately think that a description of the world should be included,
maybe a short story or brief history... you don't want question like
"what's cyberwear" beign thrown around...

but i think that idea would be much helpful, and if you don't mind,
i would like to see the work when it is near, or totally completed.
i am sure others would too, it's a very good idea.

I usually have a 1 or 2 page flyer that very briefly desribes the game and
the nature of the current campaign.

Then I copy the world history, as you have done.

I also have a 3 page document giving hints on character creation, which
includes many hints for players not entirely familiar with the SR world
(such as deciding whether your character has a SIN or not), and includes an
attached copy of the SRII 20 Questions.

Then, if people want, I have a 4 page or so Shadowrunning SOP, that
describes, in my opinion, how a truely "professional" (ie, probably rather
boring to actually play <grin>) shadowrunner would probably behave. This
provides hints like "scope out your meet sight with your Mr J before
arriving, to look for potential ambush setups".

If you like, I can send these to you.

I could use one of these myself. I'm starting a campaign Saturday
and some of the players are newbies or at least unfamiliar with the world.

I'd like to get one too, especially since we have a local rpg
gathering/evening once every month that is open to everyone and from
time to time some newbies want to get to know SR.
