Somehow I've misplaced my FAQ that has all the set commands for
shadowRN. Would someone be so kind as to send me another copy or let me
know where to find it?

Not quite. A Thwap is the sound any carp makes when it strikes bare flesh.

Actually, a wet carp, according to the message by Rob Hayden
that started it all off. The 1,000-year-old part is optional, and was
added on later (I don't know when, but I suppose it's from the
first time that big ASCII carp was used).

Remember when they're in the cave after fighting the Rabit? And (I
can't remember why) everyone goes "oooOOOOOoooo", except for one guy
(sorry, can't remember the name) goes "eeeeeEEEEEEeeeee". Then
everyone tries to teach him to go "oooooOOOOOOoooo". His reply is
(approximately), "No no. You misunderstand. I don't mean
`ooooOOOoooo' as in amazament. I mean `eeeEEEEEeeee' as in I'm very
frightened, because of the monster." Then everyone else turns around
and sees the monster which begins the chase through the cave which ends
when the cartoonist has a heart attack.

Damn, it's about time to rent that movie again :)

The only thing that I'd point out is that your view of the SR world might
not be the same as your GMs. As a SR GM of some 13 years experience, I can
say that I have difficulty playing SR sometimes because I have preconceived
views about how the SR world fits together and works. Not everyone has the
same views as me, though ;-). Fortunately, I only get to play about once
every two years or so (at cons, or when someone else *gasp* runs a SR game),
so it rarely causes problems ;-). So, remember, your GM is running SR in
_his_ SR universe, not yours, so don't try to force your SR world view on
him ;-).

I noticed that this is especially true when it comes to how npcs react to the players
(cops, guards, fixers), how difficult transactions are or when in the course of the
adventure the real problems are starting (some GMs seem to throw everything at you while
you're en route to your grandmother, others wait 'till you arrive at the scene of the
crime) - for example, at a recent con, a GM wanted to see my character's driving license,
since he was 100% sure that this is seperate from the physical SIN-stick. Not being the
quickest thinker at the time, I responded "What driving license?", which got me
in quite a
lot of trouble with the cops...

Only one real one, those lovely plot twists you do, the hugely imaginitive
ways of sending the run six ways to drek in a handcart, all that time you
spend copying stuff from the critters book into your notes, checking powers
and making empathic pained sounds to yourself while your players sit looking
on...
Suddenly you're on the recieving end.
Enjoy!

Or to make it short: remember that as a player you are no longer the GM :)

This means that it isn't you world, your interpretation of the rules, your
knowledge of the rules, etc. If the other GM does something that you
wouldn't do, or doesn't do something that you would due, don't say anything
and just play the game :)

As in any rpg you may discuss it with him and/or the other players _after_
the game, but do not try to argue with your GM during play, even if he's
making huge mistakes.

Let him his own view of SR rules&universe, and learn step by step.

Firstly if your like the Gms ive served under you will
require a sense of humour implant *smirks*.

Other then that its a lot more fun being a player.

You have a,lot more time to do what YOU want to do and
I find less is expected of you.

Plus you get to devote all your time to one character
and how they interect with the world rather then a
whole bunch of npcs who take attention away from the
main guys.

As you can tell,I resent being a GM a lot of the time.

Darren.(It's a dirty job,and I don't want to do it.)

Disclaimer

These messages were posted a long time ago on a mailing list far, far away. The copyright to their contents probably lies with the original authors of the individual messages, but since they were published in an electronic forum that anyone could subscribe to, and the logs were available to subscribers and most likely non-subscribers as well, it's felt that re-publishing them here is a kind of public service.
