Seb answered the magic question handily, so I'll leave that alone.

There's a module called Harlequin, yes. It's got Harlequin and Ehran the
Scribe in it, two immortal elves. They're in a bit of an argument, so the
players are recruited to be pawns for H. The book consists of five (?)
adventures that are all related, but the PCs aren't supposed to pick up on
that until about halfway through. It's a pretty neat read; I haven't
played it though.

And yeah, you're not going to find it on the shelves. eBay's good, or
you can search for stores online (sometimes you get lucky, I got Lone Star
that way). You're going to pay through the nose on an auction site, but it
does pop up every now and again.

Umm. I liked 2XS and Shadowplay, though they're not in print. Burning
Bright was cool, Into the Shadows was all right, and the first trilogy was
a good read (if a little outdated; that Spider stuff didn't age well at
all). You should have an easier time finding out-of-print novels; they
show up everywhere, and cheap.

Good luck!
