Sounds like you got what you paid for-lots of cash and friends, but
low stats and skills. I f you know how to use them, you're OK-contacts
can have info and help make deals; buddies will fight by your side; gang
members can help out with anything you need a group to do ( I used one
once to create a diversion so my friends and I could infiltrate a
warehouse).

Personally, though, I think you're better off taking skills at A
and tech at B. Sure, you have to economize, but you can get decent
starting toys and upgrade later. But then, I'm a skills-monger
anyway, as my friends can tell you.

Okay, I can already hear the flames, but what the hell. I've created a
character totally based on concept, not an archetype (never really liked
that concept; promotes stereotyping IMHO). I didn't know who else to run
it by. Besides, I'm afraid it's bordering on munchkinism, although I
must emphasize that I didn't have numbers in mind during creation,
strictly concept. I wanted a shadowrunner without the typical rough
upbringing that was more of a victim of circumstance. Here goes:

Street Name: Chemist Real Name:(later)
Sex: Male Age:22

Chemist was born to a somewhat rich family who owned a small
pharmecutical company. He had a happy upbringing and was a very active,
athletic person all of his life. He attended college when he was 17 and
majored in chemistry. His favorite things were his studies, his family,
and rock climbing. On the day of his graduation, the proudest day of his
life, a corporate hit squad who decided that his parents' company was
getting a bit too big and pushy for comfort blew the hell out of the
section that his parents were sitting. His world was instantly
shattered. He became withdrawn and sullen. Anguish became hate, and hate
became a cold calculating need for revenge. With the remainder of the
money he was able to get together, he bought a small lab and equipment
and some wired reflexes and a smartlink. For a year, he has been honing
his skills and developing equipment for his vengeance. he's about ready
to reenter the world at large and go after his goal.

Well the concept seems fine...good even, and you have been consistant
skills wise. The only a couple things i find a bit munchkinous...the way
your attributes are allocated seems a bit...well...lopsided. From you
discription I envisioned a dashing young college student living life to the
fullest, but then he had a charisma of 2 and I then envisioined an awkward,
shy, maybe even homely introvert. Then the passion you described about his
parents death stirring him to revenge at all costs his will driving him on
to right the wrongs done to him...but then he only has an average
willpower. Average is fine mind you, but all his physical attributes fall
into the superhuman range compared to us mere mortals. The only other
thing is...muscle aug 4 for recreation?

Now do take this with a grain of salt...my opinion is not worth anymore
than anyone elses I just wanted to point out where I would have made some
changes.

Hope that helped.

Good concept, I like him.
He's a lot like my PC Harmacy, only Harmacy actually uses ALL the drugs
himself, rather than exclusively on others.
But then Harm's not a chemist, just a scuzzy junkie!

I don't think he's munched at all.
After all, he's not packing the plasma cannon ... :-)

Yeah but what does a chemist need with muscle augs? (Am I even in the
right thread?)

;)

That was my only reservation also. I have a character called The Chemist
as well and his cyberware relates to his work e.g. nephitic screen, toxin
exhaler, fingertip needler etc, he has no smart links, or muscle
augmentation - he feels he doesn't need it (he always specifies teh fixer
hire a bodyguard for him if the run warrants it :)

Several folks commented on this. I recon it probably has something to
do with that rock climbing hobby, it was in the 'enhancements before
the nasty business' section of the character.

I would have expected the unenhaced character to have more mental
attributes, i suspect the designer needed !M yen and ran out of
attribute points to represent muscle building from a very
physically demanding hobby and the characters mental intelligence.
Maybe sum to 10 creation rules AAC, atts, money, skills are required.
the result is powerful but does fit the background presented.

Since I like rich / good backgrounds, he looks fine.
IMO caracters are _never_ munchkin, only players can be :), so it
all depends on how you play that character. I'd like this one in
my current gaming group, but the PCs would have a hard time getting
a group of shadowrunners. But it would be fun playing.

The first thing to remember is that if you are happy with your motives and
you have kept within the rules - then go for it!

Just because the numbers are big, does not mean that he is a munchkin! A
munchkin is someone who ONLY looks at numbers and making his character
"statistically the toughest and meanest". IMHO, Chemist looks like a
character that would be great fun to play.
