Subject: New Jesuits? Order of St. Slyvester?

Hi folks. =)

I was wondering if anyone knew of any more stuff in SR which references the
Catholic Church. I currently have a magician-priest toxic/blood/bug hunter
type going and I was looking for more details about the current state of the
Catholic church in SR.

The only times I can find the Church mentioned is in Grimoire re: In Imago
Dei, in Aztlan re: New Jesuits in shadowtalk, and in MitS re: Order of St.
Slyvester.

Any more info on the above mentioned references or on new references would
be greatly appreciated. =)

Ever lovable and always scrappy,
kawaii

As far as I know, there are no other references to the Jesuits or the Order
of St. Sylvester anywhere in the published Shadowrun material. But don't let
that stop you. I recently made a Jesuit character for Deadlands and found
plenty of info on the web about the order and the Catholic church in general;
which I needed, being a Protestant. So you're going to have to make up the
current condition of the Catholic church in 2060. I would imagine that
attendance is up, considering the presence of magic and spirits might bolster
belief in the Christian supernatural.

There quite a few references to the Jesuits in the novel Black
Madonna. This particular group figures rather strongly in the
plot.

There is some stuff in the Philippines section of cyberpirates. Evidently
the Jesuits don't like the Japanese Empire much.

Also, there are some scattered references to the Vatican listed on the Sixth
World:

My group went to Germany in the Harlequin campaign and when the local resistance group,
led by the local catholic priest, tried to follow the newcummers things got a little out
of hand. In the end two resistence fignters were dead and the priest and another freedom
fighter were captured. when the group finished interrogating the two, the rigger decided
that it would be better to kill the hostages because they were unlikely to help the group
after they had killed the other two. Personally I dont like this sort of kill'm all style
of play in my campaigns so i decided that they should not be let of easy on this one. When
they returned to Seattle I had the local catholic representatives scare the living hell
out of the group. In the end they agreed to pay ten percent of their earnings for the next
year to a local catholic homeless project and the rigger who had pulled the trigger, was
"persuaded" to join a reeducation program to redeem his sins and work for the
church in the future.

My point is, that to find out where the roman catholic church is in SR 2050's, you have to
look in the past. The RCC have allways and will allways have a very strong organisation
to draw upon. If the local priest thinks that the problem he is facing is too big for him
he will call up the local bishop for advice, who might call up the cardinal, who again
might just turn to the vatican for support.

Even though the priest form the back bone of the RCC, they have never failed to draw upon
local tallent to perform their schemes. The knight orders during the crusades. Mercenaries
of various types to face the crowds things got a little over heated, and there is no
reason why the church might not be a major employer in SR as well.

That is how the RCC works in my campaign and believe me when i tell you that next time my
group sees a priest walk down the sidewalk towards them they might just decide that it
would be safer to cross the road during rush hour then to continue walking this side of
the road.
