I've been kickning around the idea of transferring weapons form various
ohter games into SR, most notably, from Robotech. (Yes, all you mad, drooling
men, imagine what one character could do with a fully charged cyclone in seattle when
they're pissed off). Also, the weapons in cyberpunk ook very interesting-
such as a rifle that fires ramjets missles. The farther away you are, the faster and more
accurately the projectile hits. I'll see if I can drum up some stats
over christmas break.

Anybody be interested in all the first and second edition AD&D
weapons converted to Shadowrun (including some of the magical ones,
converted to technology?)

Sorry about being unclear. It's this stupid Banyan Vines mailer; I haven't
quite got it figgered out yet.

I said "No" to the person who posted about converting the AD&D weapons,
magical and non-magical. I don't see any need for a flood of conversions
from a game most on this list have come to barely tolerate. I think it was
White Wolf magazine who had an article with all sorts of magical stuff for
SR2. I didn't even buy that copy. But if you want to convert and post them,
feel free. I was just voicing my (non-referenced) opinion.

BTW, if you've seen the articles in White Wolf by "Legion"... It ain't me.

I don't know if you've seen my net.publications Running Gear and/or Tech
Specs (they're on my WWW page, the URL is in my .sig), but if you let me I
could include your system in the next one of these publications. Fully
credited, naturally (plus you can have your picture in it, if you can send
me a scanned one). I must say that I haven't seen your system yet (you said
you'd post it on the list, but it didn't appear yet), so I don't quite get
what it is exactly.

Something that I've noticed with Shadowrun is that there are really few
NEW weapons. There are just a lot of gunz and gernades and swords (which
have showed the least change). I know there are some things like
explosive rounds and mono wires but there are relitively few considering
the speed in which technology is advancing now days. I have decided to
make a few new items. The ones here are all knives and swords because
there seams to be a lack of new blades around. If you like them, please
mail me for mor ideas and don't ask me for the rules, make them yourself
for your own game. They are as follows:

Sonic Knife: This is basically a normal knife but a switch triggered by
contact to the blade causes it to vibrate at extreemly high
frequencies. This method is very effective agenst soft objects
but is useless agenst harder targets.

Barbed Knife: This is a nasty little thing which will cause normal damage
when entering and then causes even more damage when it leaves the body.
This only aplies to soft targets; on hard targets it does the
same ammount of damage.

High hilted knife: This is really Just a normal knife but its blade
extends down in front of the grip or hilt. It is always one
bladed and is often curved to add ease in slashing. It causes
normal damage to all targets but is easier to wield than a normal
knife.

Crystal edged Knife/Sword: This is basically a sword or knife whith
little or no restistance when cutting through something. It is
basically a combination of dikkote (sp?) and mono-fiber. To
maintain its cutting power, one must sterolize it under extreem
heat and pressure weekly.

Fractal edge blades: They are like normal blades but the edge is
ten times as long as it looks. It is extreemly superior at
cutting any sort of material which is not 100% solid such as cast iron.
Any material such as flesh, ceramic armor, most low grade
plastics and any biological material is cut very easily.

Thats all for now. Mail me for more.

<snip about not enough gizmos --- I agree>

@ Sonic Knife: This is basically a normal knife but a switch triggered by
@ contact to the blade causes it to vibrate at extreemly high
@ frequencies. This method is very effective agenst soft objects
@ but is useless agenst harder targets.

You'll need some fairly heavy damping around the handle to get
rid of the vibration. A simple example is try to hold one of those
old fashioned vibrating massage (sp?) machines. Your hand is numb
after a few minutes.

@ Barbed Knife: This is a nasty little thing which will cause normal damage
@ when entering and then causes even more damage when it leaves the body.
@ This only aplies to soft targets; on hard targets it does the
@ same ammount of damage.

I know those exist today, howabout some stats ?
Dam: StrL for standard slash
Dam: Str+3L for stab (T#+2) ?

@ High hilted knife: This is really Just a normal knife but its blade
@ extends down in front of the grip or hilt. It is always one

I would suggest if there was no successes, the blade shatters.

@ cutting any sort of material which is not 100% solid such as cast iron.

I think that is a little over kill. How did they manage this ?

True, but those massage machines vibrate over a space that would be broad
compared to what might be necessary for a vibroknife. Actually, such a wide
area of vibration (go to The Sharper Image sometime and try their hand
massagers--it's very visible) might make a vibroknife really difficult to use
simply because it's tossing so much force around in different directions.

However, something that's vibrating, say, half a millimeter in either
direction, a hundred times a second (or more), is going to be passably
controllable and will definitely rip up on anything soft--and crack itself to
pieces on hard targets. I'd also add +1 or +2 to the target number since it
*is* vibrating.

I'm assuming you've seen a Mandelbrot set before? If you zoom in on one, you'll
find that the edges, which *look* smooth, are actually various curves, which
are actually made up of *more* curves--ad infinitum. Of course, taking it out
to infinity is not really possible, but in a world where monowire exists, I
think it might be possible to have a blade with serrations within serrations.
I'm not sure how sturdy the edge would be though...imagine how embarrassed
you'd be if you took your fractal-edged blade (which, based on the precision it
would take to create such a thing, ought to be obscenely expensive), tried to
slice through something hard, and came back with a nastily crumpled edge...

Unfortunately, a metallic blade will suffer from fatigue stresses and give
out after, say, 10 million cycles (how high is your frequency of
vibration). Even if you (grossly) overdesign the blade to the infinite
cyclic frequency level, it would be extraordinarily sensitive to crack
propagation and notching.

A ceramic blade would powder itself in no time, especially as the
vibrational frequency nears the resonant frequency of the ceramic.

A better sonic knife design wouldn't bother with the blade, but then you'd
best have a lot of joules in your battery pack to run the thing for any
length of time.

A fractal edge blade is, again, subject to crack propagation. Oh, and very
easy to make: we already have them. They're called stainless steel knives.
Up close inspection of the blade shows a fractal surface, especially when
unpolished. This is *not* a desirable characteristic. Obsidian knives cut
better than steel knives because they *don't* have a fractal edge; they
have a long, smooth one. Cutting power is applied force divided by area,
after all: the smaller the area, the better.

That's why monowhips work so well.

My friend Rip Claw has told some people about our new weapon--drumroll
please--THE LOUISIVILLE SLUGGER!
If you want the stats, just holler I'm in shouting distance.

I also need a new weapon that is kind of powerful, so that I can use it
in a run. Please oblige, hopefully, it will give the runners something
unexpected. Maybe I'm just a little S& M.

Its not really new... just something I used.... I got the idea from a
movie. I am not sure exactly what it was, tho I would think
anti-tank or something. The guy had to bolt it to the ground when he
shot and the rounds were massive. He was a sniper taking his target
out from 1.something kilometers away. It was very kewl as the bullet
(shell?) went through the bodyguard.. then through the target.. then
through the other side of the airplane they were getting off of. You
should see your PCs faces when you say that there is suddenly a very
large hole (fist sized I'd guess? maybe smaller) in the tree standing
next to them. :)
(And no I have no idea what damage would be... thankfully my PCs took
out the sniperS before they could get any of my PCs.)

What SR novel was that where the runner's kept having to deal with some
guy with a sniper rifle and depleted uranium rounds (or something)? I
can only remember the one scene (junk yard or dock...OK, remember is a
very loose term here..) where the big armored, muscle-guy goes wide eyed
as there is a fist sized flaming hole punched clean through his armor and
chest.

I have a thought, Although I have no Idea how to assign a damage code, what
would you think about a "molecular destablizer." It sounds nasty enough,
and could be defined in a number of ways.

If you're going to pull out a molecular destabilsation ray, why not just
nuke them and be done with it? At least the nuke is real...(right now,
I'm hoping I didn't just say something stupid...)
