Subject: New Year stuff

HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHUMMERS! O.K. My questions and ideas are: 1) I'd like
to know what's new in Virtual Realities 2.0 that didn't appear in the old
version. Is it an expansion to the old one, or is it a second version?
I've never seen the book before, but since I'm Matrix freak, I want to all
there is to it. Please post a message or reach me at my personal address (
at: pavloj@*******.bgu.ac.il ). 2) Another thing that's been bugging me
for a long time: who manages to meet with his team on a regular bases. My
group rarely plays. How do you people find the time for it? 3) Here is an
idea: Why does shadowrun lack flamers? Here are the stats for a flamer
that I cooked up: Range: short:0-2/medium:3/long:4/extreme:none.
Conceal:5 (4 with tank) Ammo:Naplam tank* Mode: special**
Damage:special*** Weight:4.5 Availability:12/22 days Cost:1600 nuyen
Street Index:2.5 *The Napalm tank consists of 20 turns of spraying.
Conceal modifier: -1 Availability:11/22 days Cost:250 for fill up. Street
Index: 2.5 **The flamer shoots in full auto mode but has different
advantages: it sprays the equivalent of 5 rounds for the purpose of
staging damage and multiple targeting. If trigger is not pressed all the
way, count the extra "rounds and add them as an extra attack(s)when the
tank is empty. Example: If Marcel choose to press the trigger of the
flamer on one of his turns for a shorter period: lets say, 3 "rounds", he
will inflict less damage on this turn, but will have an extra attack of
only 2 "rounds when the ammo tank should have been empty. ***The damage
is quite complicated: It starts as 9L ,resisted by half the impact rating
if the armor. At long range it does only 6L. Remember not to forget the
staging due to its auto-firing. The chemical will burn for a very long
time (more then the combat sequence),doing 9L for each round.
I recommend this as a unique gadget or as a new twist to close range
combat. This is my gift to all the Shadowrn mail list subscribers for the
new year ( Imagine Ol' Santa putting one of these in your character's
sock, heh?). 4) Last thing: I'd like to start a thread that has a lot of
significance: Role Playing. How many of you players or GMs acually
roleplay? I'm talking about the whole package: Talking in first person as
the character, using body language, adding quirks to the character,
working on his background, giving him an image and so on. How many of you
would mark the five out of five on this one? How many less then three? How
many would mark none? I know that I have established my character to the
max (If anybody want's a copy of my character sheet, Just E-mail me a
request.) Excuse me if I'm too arrogant ( I know I am, you see), but I
think its time for everybody to move from "roll-playing" to
"role-playing". Please comment on this one. P.S. Death threats that
have the subtitle "to that pompous piece of drek" will be execepted
only at my personal address (Unrelated thread, remember?)

Hmmmm, I think I'd mark myself as between 2 and 4. Sometimes I put more work
into a character than others. After a while, even characters who started off
without a background end up with one.

We're a group of creative people that need an outlet, plus we continue to
have a good time. Also, we change GMs about once a month. I run ShadowRun,

hmmm...just of the top of my head: extend the long range out to at least 10
meters, lower the conceal number (unless you've got a high-tech flat tank
or small high pressure tank), and incorporate the shotgun spread rules.

Oh all right, I'll answer this one too :) I would score five out of five.
The only thing I don't do is stand up and act out what my character is
doing.

well, some new IC, some new progs, some rules, you know... same-o, same-o :)

2) Another thing that's been bugging me

I run a regular session on Saturdays, from around 4-5PM til midnight (or
thereabouts). I've got 4 steady players with a couple more in and out.
That's at my place (fortunately I have a large house), on Sunday eves I play
at another guys house (same group of guys with the exception of this GM
who only plays on this night). and we always have a different game going on
the different nights. games (types) will last from a month to several...usually
the other GMhouse changes GMs or games; my guys like my games and usually that's
SRUN.

at my games, we all operate "in-character", and several times players have
slipped
an OOC comment and got their character into some mess. :) And we certainly
spend more time roleplaying rather than rollplaying... we've had several sessions
where I rolled my dice less than a dozen times, as have the players; and still had
a good time. my players have told me i do good "characterizations", complete
with
sound effects. they can usually tell intentions/personality without any further
explanations.
I have players who get into every tiny detail of their characters, and others who
just keep the info basic and both just carry on fine. the detailed guys usually don't
slow down the game with their details as most of their "extra curricular
activities"
are done out of the actual playing time (blue-booking).

It's a complete overhaul of the entire matrix rules. It still fits in with
the stats for earlier matrix things, but the actual rules have changed
immensely. And, IMHO, for the better. But then again, I don't exactly like
the matrix under any of the earlier rules...

I'd say concealability is way too low. Make it something like 5 without
tank, NA with tank... Take a look at a picture of someone using a modern
flamer, the tanks are the size of a decent backpack.
Although I must confess I only now looked at the ranges; with ranges that
short it might make a bit more sense, yes.

Brian: I rarely play at all anymore. The groups I was with, ahve all
disbanned and moved away. Now I only play as a sit in with various local
groups. I have not found enough people who are not already involved, to
start my own group again (and time/availability is an issue).

a complement, now for the last time SHUT UP! Ok. Not a bad design,
actually it is pretty kick ass, except watch out for those Ignite, Fireball,
et al. spells. The only recommendations I have are to give it choke and
spread rules like for shotguns. Thus the amount of Napalm you pump into it,
determines the range and spread of the flamer. Also, I would make the
concealability 4 and lower depending on the size of the tank. A small hand
held 15-30 second tank, would give a -1 conceal, a average waist back size
60-90 second tank a -2 (why even try to conceal it), and large backpack 3-5
min tank NA.

Brian: After reading these responses you could probably guess, around where
I would rank myself. A 4 or 5 depending on the situation. As a gm I am
much more a roleplayer then as a player (3-4).
Nurse Wratchet: Do not let him fool you, he loves to role-pl.....
Brian: That is enough Wratchet, and I mean all of the various personas in you.

VR2 is a new version for the Shadowrun Matrix. They have redone the entire
matrix, and made it easier to run. My advice buy it.

Shadowrun like any other hobby/career requires time to be allotted for it.
One group I used to be in played on Saturdays and a group I used to GM
played just about everyday (hell we saw each other every day so why not play).

Being the pyromaniac that I am, I like. What are it's chances of catching
flamable material on fire; Are the the same for the elemental effect of fire
for spells?

I would have to say five out of five. When I role-play a completely knew
personalty other than myself takes the role of the character. I just roll
the dice and he/she does the rest. :)

They totally redid it. You can easily convert your old characters but
the matrix has changed totally. If you are a matrix freak i suggest
you but the thing. There was a lot more discussion on this just after
it came out, it tells you how to get the old logs somewhere, not sure
if thats made it to the FAQ yet or not.

Yah on that one. Gimme a copy please, and in return I can email a copy =

"Remote". I posted her background to ShadowGM just recently, but the li=

Amen to that.

Been there, done that. I don't play with the guys in 3 East any more ;)

On a side note - what are the Inpatient Mental Health Hospitals like in
2056? I'm thinking of writing a run were the team has to do an extraction
of a patient in a Corp. Mental Hospital. The patient was a high ranking
corporate that lost the political game and has been drugged up and sent to
the hospital for life (the Corp. can't kill him for some reason or
another).

Uh, Wratchet, all of you, if you live in Tucson I might be able to hook you
up with my ex-group (kinda hard for me to play with them with me in LA).

I know we thought of something similar, but determined the better part of
valor, was to make it a miss. :) {No, you are just a coward}. I plead the

Been there, Gamemastered that. Two of three groups I had the luck
to be involved with aggessesivly forbid grenades within the group
('Oh, NO! The last Grenade you threw hit ME! You leave it at home or
I'll..." [pull out LARGE gun])

The chance for missfi... missthrows is to great under the given game mechanics,
IMHO, so I tend to agree with these players.
