Not I. If I was caught betting against the Avs (being a Denver native) it
wouldn't be pretty (can you believe that during the last football season
someone actually set the lawn of a Packer's fan on fire after Denver lost
to Green Bay?!?). 'Sides, the cup's staying in Denver for at least five
more years :):)

BTW, what kind of cyber do you think hockey players would have?
I'm thinking dermal plating and bone lacing would be standard :)

One of the BIG SF magazines did a collection of short SF sports stories
awhile back.
I think it was Amazing magazing, and it was something like "Amazing Sports
Stories" - creative eh?

Anyway, one of the tales was about a hockey league that used an entire ice
planet as an arena.
The matches lasted DAYS - WEEKS!
All the players had muscle aug, and enhanced articulation type stuff, and
the gear was incredible!
Life support temperature proof armor, rocket skates, and a small radar, FOF
and HUD in every helmet.

That's something I'd like to see in Hockey now.
Why not put commo links in every helmet?
As an ex college football player, it would have been DAMN handy during the
game if the coach could communicate directly with the player, or the
players with each other!

That'd be excellent for SR era hockey!

BTW - Fro, why don't you do some stats for Pro-Wrestling circa 2058?!?!?
Sure there's Urban Brawl, but that lacks the same style as the
in-yer-face-action of pro wrestling!

Yeah, right. If anyone is building an empire, it'll be Edminton, may
the 80's return with a vengence!! (Note: I am personally a Chicago fan, but
they're doomed this year.) On the other side of the coin, Philly's going to be
giving the Oiler's a run for the money this year, just don't expect the new
found Coffey to work any miracles this year. I think he's past his prime.

Muscle Aug for the extra speed on breakaways, and possibly things even
as far as tactical computers to avoid the devastating checks. If you see him
coming, you can try to avoid him.
On another issue of the NHL in the 2050's, do you think that the goals
might be expanded? The thing that's come to my mind is the shear size af a
troll, something that could block the majority of the net. If they started
taking tose positions, the goal would have to be enlarged to allow some space
for the puck to go past the goalie, or else the games would be even lower
scoring than they are today, which isn't much (3-1 or so). Just a side note.
Any hockey fans have any comments on this notion?

I can hold back no longer. I'll throw my hat into the rink on this one :)
Since FASA so rudely left Hockey out of the Shadowbeat sourcebook, and
AFAIK has never mentioned it, I'll write something up about it. Please
don't except this Real Soon Now, you all know how lazy I really am :)
Maybe for TSS-03, but more likely for TSS-04. If you would like to offer
your input into this, help out, don't want me to do it, etc etc, let me
know :)

I bet Dwarves would probably be hot competitors because of their size.
If nobody else is playing with Dwarves as thier wingmen then nobody could
check them to get the puck away from them.

I disagree. Look at John Vanbiesbrook or Mike Richter. Both those guys are
relatively small and they're great goalies. If size mattered that much, why
not just put a sumo wrestler in the net? Speed and athleticism are the most
important things for a tender. I'd give them enhanced articulation, wired
reflexes and maybe dermal sheathing to take the sting off those 150+ mph
slapshots in 2050. Speaking of that, could anyone imagine Sakic or LeClair
with cyberarms and a smartlink. Scary.

It would probably change the concept of a high stick. "Really ref, it was
only at my waist!"

Thank you! I thought that was only my gripe. FASA's based in Chicago for
goodness sakes.

Yeah, those guts aren't very big, but if the teams were willing to
splurge for the cyber and bioware, the trolls would be able to increase their
speed, thereby negating the problem you just pointed out. By teh way, some sumo
wrestlers are pretty athletic so they probably could be put in the net, if they
knew how to skate. What I was talking about was that you could get the trolls
up to the point where they would be just as good as anybody else. At that
point, their extra size would be a huge bonus, since they would still block
more of teh net, and they would be able to move from side to side as quickly as
the other goalies. I don't know how practical it would be to put so much money,
through cyber/bioware. After all, they would be changing teams so often, noone
would want to spend so much on the players.
Regarding the players like Sakic, if you were to pump up their strength
and accuracy, you'ld create a monster. The thing I'd hate to witness would be
the fights that would break out between these suped up players, just think
about what teams would put into someone like Probert! Scary indeed.

Teaching a sumo wrestler to skate would be your smallest problem I
guess... I'd expect them to be banned by the Legue. "Their goalie,
Tetsuhiko Sugiue, broke the ice _again_! Now that's enough for the
season!"

Same goes probably for trolls.
