First of all, White Wolf Magazine had a list of about 15-20 non-standard
totems. Challenge Magazine also had a few, but they wern't all that good.

You can create any totem you want such as

Falcon, Penguin, Turtle, Jaguar, Tiger, Iguana...Badger (we don't need no
stinking badgers...)

To create a new totem, just think about the animal, and how it acts in the
wilds.

(e.g) Jaguar...

Jaguar was the great warrior for the ancient Aztecs. He is strong, and a
great warrior, but Jaguar also knows the value of Stealth.

+2 Combat Spells, +2 Illusion Spells, -2 Health Spells, +2 Conjuring Forest
Spirits

Psychological Limitation: Jaguar is very proud of his own mental, and
Physical abilities, is someone makes a fool of Jahuar in any contest, he must
make a willpower 5 test or attack the person.

Only problem with this is, that Totems are not based on actual *animals*,
but on people's beliefs surrounding the animal. I mean, snakes are not
actually wise healers who know many secrets and are adaptable. (a snake
totem based on living snakes would make shamans who would sit around
basking in warm areas, emerging once a month or so to eat the entire
McHugh's menu and then crawl back into a warm closet to digest for a
few weeks. Occcasioanlly, they'd pull all their clothes off and buy
new ones.)
Different cultures have different beliefs; India and Native
American cultures view snakes as nice beasties, while others are quite
the opposite. What I'd do to make a new totem is research the beliefs of
the background of the character I wanted to make, and then base the totem
on that. Say I wanted to make a Kangaroo shaman, I'd look up the beliefs
of the Aboriginal cultures.

I still want a Yeast totem....

Oh, all right all ready!

Yeast
-----

Yeast loves warm and humid locations, and is very comfortable in crowds
and in close, confined spaces. Yeast gets a bonus dice in such
circumstances.

However, yeast has corresponding disadvantages in open, airy, dry
environments.

Yeast believes in overwhelming opponents by gradual attrition or
through sheer force of numbers. Direct confrontation is not his style.
Yeast gets -2 dice for Combat and Manipulation spells.

Yeast is fond of mind-altering chemicals and psychedelic mood alteration.
Yeast gets +2 dice for Health and Illusion spells.

Disadvantages: Yeast often has low charisma, usually because of his
overpowering body odour and smelly feet.

Really good points Eve.

Totems are as the culture see's the animal. For me, CAT is very
different that in FASA. Cat being a symbol of the Goddess.

If I interpret the happenings in 'Find Your Own Truth', the third
book in the Secrets Of Power trilogy correctly, the Spider Totem counts as
_everyones_ worst enemy.

Depends on your mythology. To the Celts the raven is sometimes a harbinger
of doom, to the Amerindians Raven is the source of change. Snakes in Greek
and Amerindian cultures is a healer, but the serpent (which was cursed to
slither on it's belly) is a creature of evil to the Christians; the serpent
(or dragon) is a creature of great power and wisdom in China.

As I have observed it, this conversation has acquired an a-maizeing breadth all
its own, replete with matzo witty commentary -- e'en tho' some statements have
come out a little half-baked. However, this diatribe goes against the grain of
the list, as it has muffin to do with roll-playing, which cereal topic at hand!
Oats getting tiresome; I mean, cane we get on with it? Sesame, biscuit back
down to business before the mill to do so is scone, and let us not wafer in our
resolve.

I merely hope that you shall not consider me an old hoagy for rusking to draw
our attention to this potentially Danish practice.
