Who said rape has no place in RPGs? As long as everybody is comfortable =
with
it and as long as the rape is a meaningful element in the story as =
opposed
to a gratuitous scene of violence, I believe you should use it. I never =
used
it myself so far, but I have other plot elements which might be =
offensive to
most of the people I know. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a promoter of
violence or human depravation (although it might look like that way). I =
just
think that if you can use the good stuff you can also use the bad stuff =
and
put it to good effect. That depends on your concept of role-playing and =
your
group's style of play. Granted not everyone would like to witness a rape
scene in a RPG.

I believe RPGs are as good for relaxing as they are to tell stories =
which
are both entertaining and meaningful. Call me an idealist, but that's my =
way
of thinking. Now, you have to be careful when using offensive material =
or
else you could turn the session into a string of violence and sex (not
unlike most of the action movies today). But what if those elements can =
play
a major part in the story like a non-player character who was raped in =
her
childhood and now wants revenge and goes after her assailants? With a =
good
imagination you could insert the character into your storyline. I once =
had a
lawyer who hired the characters to do some work. When they did some =
research
about him, they discovered his sexual tastes were excentric the least. =
The
man was a pedophile. After a while, the characters were considering =
doing
some extortion on their own to raise the price of the run.

I am now working on a scenario involving the creation of "snuff" =
simsense
movies. It goes something like this: an important movie star witnesses =
the
making of a "snuff" simsense movie. She flees but is chased by the =
makers of
the movie. She disappears. Her agent, a drug-addict who is up to his =
neck in
debts, wants to find her badly, or else he cannot make that =
multi-million
nuyen movie and pay up his debts. His creditors are already harassing =
him.
Meanwhile, the main protagonist of the "snuff" movie is looking for the
actress along with his male lover (you're right, they're gays). To
complicate things even further, the actress had a fleeting relation with =
her
bodyguard. He is concerned for her disappearance and will oppose anyone =
who
stands between him and his love. Don't I just love complicated stories?

The point here is that this sort of stories translates my pessimistic =
vision
of the future. Others may be more optmistic, but I've found that the =
moral
and social fabric of society is ripping apart at the end of this =
century.
Can you imagine what it'll be like 60 years from now? And aren't the =
things
I told you above (drug-addiction, pornographic movies, actresses who =
fall in
love for their bodyguards - watch Madonna) a common sight these days? Am =
I
to ignore them and just put the good stuff. That's just not my vision of =
the
Shadowrun world. The key here is "vision". Every GM has his/her own =
vision
so this will vary from one people to another.

Besides, I like my stories to have a bit of "film noir" elements in =
them.
And those stories in the 40s and 50s were full of rape, scandal, sex, =
drugs,
you name it. Did anyone see L.A. Confidential? Anyway, this is my =
oppinion.
Others are entitled to theirs.

Later...

Hugo Barbosa,
Portugal
