Hey, I just want to encourage everyone to go out and read the new SR
novel, Nosferatu. it is by the same guys who wrote the London sourcebook.
While it does have a lot of the standard "immortal elves" plot, the best
part for me was the attention given to the area we now know as South
Africa. It's a little different than the usual Seattle crap, and I liked
it. Too bad there's no South Africa book on Doom's product list. Oh well,
Mexico is neat too.

A favor to ask: can someone give me the low-down on the Nosferatu
(a la PAoEurope). Most specifically paranormal abilities, general bent,
etc. I have a few campaign ideas, but I need a little more info before I
can subject my players to it. >:)
Thanks

Being evil to them, huh? I liked it, as our group just finished up a run
yesterday that involved a nosferatu.

Off the top of my head, the nosferatu are a bit like vampires, but just
different enough to really screw with the players. They have the ability to
create vampiric pawns, but prefer not to. They are very solitary,
preferring to do their scheming from a distance. Even more than vampires,
they are almost all mages of some type, with all of the benefits that come
from that. Between their powers and spells they come off as extreme
manipulators.

Powers include Immunity to Age, Pathogens and I think Normal weapons.
Enhanced attributes (Body and Strength), Fear, Compulsion, Influence,
Infection, Magery, Regeneration and one or two other miscellaneous.

Weakness include allergy to sunlight and Essence loss, although I believe
it less than that of a vampire. Note that they do not have a weakness to
wood, wooden stakes don't do anything special to them. Great look in the
eyes of a player when the bad guy, who they think is a vampire, pulls the
stake back out of his chest and the wound closes up.

If no one else gives you the official out of the book, I'll send you the
SR3 stats and background stuff tonight after work.

[summers give you the rules about the nosferatu]

He forgot the visual department. They look different from "normal"
vampires, infact they look like Nosferatu did
in the classic movie "nosferatu" ie like a bald rat in a human body. So
there are apparently no sexy and seductive nosferatu (if they don't use
magic) but instead something odd and hideous looking.

From PAoEurope
"Nosferatu appear to be human, with enlarged canine teeth, thin or no head
and body hair, and extremely pale skin."

"Like vampires, nosferatu consume blood to live, but need significantly
less than vampires. Nocturnal creatures, nosferatu live and behave in a
very controlled manner, usually possessing a clod, arrogant, hyper-rational
personality. Nosferatu prefer a solitary life, and so few bother to control
minions, even though more nosferatu appear able to create such minions.
Rarely, nosferatu may join a hermetic group in order to develop further
resources."

Quotes in the shadowtalk describe nosferatu posing as doctors and keeping
wards full of "food" for years, liberally using illusion spells and their
innate powers to control and manipulate others, and forming several
initiatory groups in Central and Eastern Europe. They also describe them as
being more cold and calculating, much more in control than the normal
vampire. They like to think of themselves as superior to all other
creatures, whether metahuman or vampire, and so rarely pass on their "gift"
to anyone not related to them in some way.

From the Critters handout.
Power include: Compulsion, Enhanced Physical Attributes (Body and Strength
twice per day), Enhanced Senses (Improved Hearing, Low-Light Vision,
Thermographic Vision), Essence Drain (permananet and temporary), Fear,
Immunity (Age, Pathogens, Poisons), Infection, Influence, Magical Skills,
Regeneration
Weaknesses: Allergy (Sunlight, Severe), Essence Loss (1 point per 1d6+1 months)

Hope that's what you need Marc.

Alex

Not in my game they don't; I use them like inelligent vampires with
(slightly) less anti-social eating habits. Then again, I don't own paranoid
animals of north america, only critters.

I mean Paranormal Animals of Europe, I'm just too tired to remember two
books all at once.
