Does anyone know why it is that Seattle uses the nuyen as it's currency,
when it's part of the UCAS? Shouldn't it use UCAS dollars?

Probably has something to do with Seattle being the only US enclave on
the west coast. All by it's lonesome out there, the ties with the UCAS are
probably not as tight as NYC or pre-bug Chicago. So it's less tied to that
culture, and therefore, that currency.
Also, since Seattle is a major trading hub (if not THE hub) for
western North America, it does huge international business. As such, it's a
smart idea to deal in an international currency and the nuyen is the leading
contender in that respect.

I think it does, officially, but everybody uses nuyen because of Seattle's
location -- in the middle of a foreign country, and with the only UCAS
port on the Pacific ocean, foreign currencies will come in quite rapidly.

Why not read the book?
It's in there quite plainly.
The major Corps in Seattle are Japanese.

Renraku, Fuchi, etc.

Also, Seattle is cut off from the rest of the UCAS (surrounded by NAN)

Also, the nuyen is a much more stable currency than the Pound or Dollar.

Even the British use nuyen over pounds/dollars I think.
(It's so long since I read the London sourcebook....)

Nope they still use the pound you cant expect the English to start doing
something as normal as using Nuyen to conform with much of the rest of the
world.
nah not with them driving on the left n all.

That makes sense. I sort of had trouble beleiving that any funding or
anything that Seattle got from the UCAS government would have to be
converted to Nuyen or some other similar thing. It makes sense that it's
'unofficial'.

Yes, they are, but this in itself is not the answer.

Yeah, and it probably does. But the official currency is a little debased,
so all sensible people use the strongest currency they can get their hands
on, the nuyen. It's a little like the current Russia, the rouble is so
badly off that they will use ANY other currency in preference.

Besides, the major corps are doin' it, why can't we? :-{)

Yes, but you missed out my other points....
(Like the fact that the NuYeb is much more stable than the Dollar.)

I just didn't reply to them. I knew they were there, but I was a bit
upset by your 'Why not read the book? It's in there quite plainly'
comment, and decided not to reply to the rest so that I didn't say
something that would cause this thread to go downhill. I'm not saying
that the rest wasn't worth replying to, just that I was annoyed by your
first comment.

Can't imagine why....
It's the best place to look.
It's not as if I said it in a vicious tone of type or anything....
