Thats no Nuyen symbol. Thats non-ASCII. It depends on what
codepage, font and who knows what else you set. And any time it is
quoted by another mailer it may change.
With my mailer I first got some kind of O with a / through it, then a N
with a ~ above it.
I don't mind too much after all since I could figure out what was
meant, but with more important (perhaps even SR-related stuff ;) you
better keep to plain ASCII. Thats my 2 Nuyen or
¥ or what you want :):)

I'm trying to make fictitious newspaper article for my SR campaign, and I was
wondering if anyone knew how to make the nuyen symbol, and that if you knew
would you please let me know how. If the word program matters, I'm using
Microsoft Word 97. All help would be appreciated.

Make sure NUMLOCK is on, then hold down ALT, and hit 1, then 5, then 7, on
the keypad. Then release ALT.

Provided you haven't mucked about with any of Word's custom menu
settings:

1. Click "Insert" menu
2. Select "Symbol..."; a window will open up
3. Select "(normal text)" in the "Font" drop down menu of the
"Symbol"
window
4. Click on the Yen symbol (Fourth Row, under lowercase g)
5. Click the "Insert" button.
6. Close "Symbol" window

There are ways to automate this process, but I'll leave that as an
exercise for the reader.

That works in Word, as well as ALT 0165
The 0165 number works in other things also though.

Historically, the Germans had a habit of associating the names of objects
with the
sounds they made. In keeping with this tradition when cannons were first
made they
became known as the bum for boom! The first 100- pound bomb was dubbed
"ein lautes Bumm " a loud boom!" After the first atomic bomb was dropped on

Hiroshima, they called the fission device "ein grosses Bumm " or a big loud
boom!"
The next obvious step was the fusion, or H-bomb, which was pronounced
"ein grosses lautes Bumm all ist kaput!"

According to NEWSHADOW@***.com, at 21:33 on 2 Mar 99, the word on

Very simple: on any Windows machine, press Alt (keep it pressed) and enter
the number 0165 on the numerical keypad. Then release Alt. (You may have
to turn NumLock on before doing this.)

Pressing Alt-157 in the same way does the trick in DOS but _not_always_ in
Windows (I haven't figured out yet why it doesn't always have the desired
result).

In MS Word, there are some other ways to achieve the same result. One of
them is to choose "Insert symbol..." (or whatever it's called -- I use a
Dutch version of Word), and in the window that pops up, simply double-
click on the (nu)yen symbol. In this window, you can also choose to assign
a shortcut key to the selected symbol; you could for example assign
Ctrl+Y, so that next time you need a nuyen sign, you hit Ctrl-Y and
there's the sign.

I believe it depends on the font that you're using. In most common
commercial Windows True Type fonts (i.e. Ariel, Times New Roman, etc) the
code is Alt0165. Windows has a useful and almost undocumented (like almost
everything cool in Windows) application called Character Map. This shows
all characters in a font, and the Alt### code to use them. Most fonts have
characters that a simple keystroke won't produce. BTW, Character Map is in
Win3.1+, 95, 98, and NT.

In Word 97:
Insert -> Symbol
Font: Normal Text
Subset: Latin-1
4th row, a little to the right of center.

Voila!

And from there you can creat a shortcut key for it, or just insert it in the
text. Once it's inserted, you can cut and paste it too.
