Subject: Objects that Attack

When using a grenade in SR3 a number of dice equal to half the power of the
attack is rolled vs a 4, and successes are used to stage the attack.

What do you think about using this mechanic for all "non-guided" attacks?

If a character drives his car into a brick wall and it's determined that
the car must resist an 8D attack, roll four dice for the wall to stage the
damage against the car.

This could also work well for things like drugs, poisons, and diseases.

8D Neurostun would roll four dice to stage damage (once every combat round
until the character falls unconscious, or an antidote is administered, or
the character successfully resists the neurostun).

Speaking of Neurostun, I've come up with a few other ideas.

IMO some attacks should be ruled Stun Only. Drugs like Neurostun should be
Stun Only unless there are exceptional circumstances (i.e., there is no
Physical overflow).

Also, the idea of objects that attack gave me an idea for toxin/disease rules.

First, determine the power and damage level of the toxin/disease. A t/d
that affects someone quickly should have a high damage level. If a t/d
lasts for an extended period of time it should have a high power. A t/d
with a lower power and damage level will be an inconvenience.

After being exposed the t/d rolls a number of dice equal to it's power
(round up) vs a 4. T/d successes stage the damage up. The character makes
a damage resistance test vs the power of the t/d. Character successes
stage the damage down, and the resulting damage is recorded on the
character's sheet. Character successes are also subtracted from the power
of the t/d. On the t/d's subsequent attack it uses it's new power level.

A character is exposed to the common cold, 6M. The cold rolls three dice
vs a 4. The character rolls body vs a 6. Damage is staged. The
character's damage resistance success(es) are subtracted from the power.
Let's say the Cold is reduced to a 5M. Let's say the cold has an attack
period of 24 hours. 24 hours after the initial "attack" the cold attacks
the character again, rolling 3d6, with a 5M attack. The character resists,
and gets two successes. Damage is resolved, and the cold's power is
reduced to 3M for subsequent attacks. 24 hours later the cold attacks
again with two dice and a 3M attack. The character resists again and
records the damage. If he gets three success he reduces the cold's power
to zero, and can begin to recover.

...Okay, I'm done, for now :)
