Err.. what does this have to do with the fact that nowhere have they actually
*said* that Sprites = Windlings?
It's like saying that Battletech was created before SR, so naturally there's
no mention of mechs being called anthroforms or walkers an Age ago.
Besides which, she never said they weren't the same. (Implied otherwise, in
fact) Just not recognized as such by Canon. At the same time, nowhere does it
say specifically that they aren't the same. If it floats your boat, go with
it.
Sidestepping a little, I actually like the idea of Battletech coming an Age
after ShadowRun. If you'll allow me to spew for a bit here..
Imagine as the SR Age progress, the mana levels continue to increase and magic
gets more and more powerful. Right now when you install cyberware, you take a
hit to your essence, but you end up somewhat balanced with your magical
counterparts. Now as magic gets more powerful, the difference between those
with a 6 essence and those with a 5 becomes more apparant.
Non-invasive technology becomes more and more popular, doing more without
getting operated on becomes quite important. It wasn't so bad when for your
5.8 essence you could pretty much match an uninitiated phys-ad or something,
but when even the greenest physad has enough magic ability to blow down
buildings and basically disappear from sight.. it doesn't wash so well.
Project this over hundreds of years. Cyberware technology disappears, more and
more powerful "robotic" systems continue to develop, throw in some sort of
cataclysmic event (the ring of fire and Atlantis rises, revealing that
martians have always been amongst us and are dealing with the bugs to stop the
Horrors.. whatever..) and watch the knowledge of how to accomplish cyberware
fade.
Fly over another few hundred years as the mana levels start to dwindle,
mankind is spread out through space, they gradually lose communication
abilities.. (magical communication was instant.. technical is limited to
light-speed or whatever..) but they still have this massive "external"
technology as opposed to the "internal" tech of cybergear.
Well.. maybe it's all hogwash, but it sounds to me like it could set the stage
for Battletech, shortly after the age of magic ends and the next age starts.
