Has anyone thought about or actually done up the "Old Gods" as totems for
Shamans? aka, Norse Gods like Thor and Loki, or Egyptian Gods like Ra? Might be
inetresting to see the various Pantheons done up...

I think that followers of the old gods wouldn't necessarily be shamanic,
maybe a mix of shamanic and hermetic. I think summoning a servant of Ra
would be a long and drawn out process including some sort of ritualistic
sacrifice, not something that happens in less then a minute.

hmmm... Maybe I'll try and see what I can come up with this weekend.

I dunno about serious old time gods, but a friend of mine came up a
pantheon consisting of a Bear, a Hawk, a Puma and one other (can't
remeber) to create his cartoon character concept - Braveheart! :)

Speed of the Puma!
Strength of the Bear!
Eyes of the Hawk!
<someattribute> of the <someotheranimal>!

;)

Would they just be one of the Idol Archetypes? At least for simplicity?

Pretty sure it was BraveStarr, actually. He was american indian inspired,
hence the brave segment of his name and the animal spirit summoning bit. He
had a transforming, partially cyborged, intelligent horse for a sidekick
too.

I'm sure someone has, I've heard about it a few times. Tho, most of
it could be done with Idols (MITS p160).
There are some very easy correspondences like
Prometheus = FireBringer; Bacchus = Bacchus,
Hades = Dark King; Aphrodite = Lover,
Loki = Trickster; Zeus, Thor = Sky Father,
Hepheastus = Creator

I recall seeing something like that (without rules) for norse priests in the
German version of MitS in the section about other magical cults. I sorta
outlined something for them too: Freya +2 on Healing; Odin (Wotan in Germany) +2
on Combat; Loki +2 on Illusion; Thor +2 on Manipulation Is all I can get
together right now. The priests would get -2 on something else (maybe they
choose themselves?, maybe even -1 on two other categories?) and summon
elemental-like spirits (you'd have to come up with an healing-elemental), called, lets
say, heroes or half-gods or something *desperately trying to find ideas in
'Norse by Norsewest' and 'Rune'* nope, that's it, that's all I know about
northern God's...oh and their holy shrines would be some remote place in the woods,
or a swamp, or lake or something that can be found in nature

Wouldn't Thor be the Dragonslayer? With the Egyptian Gods there are a few
holes that aren't easily filled.

Aten, Atum = ?
Osiris = Dark King
Anubis = The dark king is aleady in use what could be used for the taker of
souls?
Isis = Moon Maiden
Ra = Sky Father? His domain was the sun so it is a questionable fit as he
didn't use lighting or storms.
Set = Adversary
Horus = DragonSlayer, Wise Warrior
Thoth = The closest match would be creator however it is a bad one IMHO.

There are more than a few bad matches with would leave the need for more
idols such as Sun King ( reworded Sun would do the trick), Taker of Souls,
Sage, something for the honorable male warriors maybe Knight.

Hope it helps.

He got it right - I was just thinking Mel Gibson :)

? I thought it was Brave Starr. I could be wrong....

Either way, I thought it was a pretty nifty idea that you'd all
appreciate :)

...Here's a good thing to do if you go to a party and you don't know anybody:
First, take out the garbage. Then go around and collect any extra garbage that
people might have, like a crumpled-up napkin, and take that out too. Pretty
soon people will want to meet the busy garbage guy.
