In addition, you could look on AOL's message's board, since I noticed that
you used that as your ISP. They advertise chat based games on their
occasionally. And another suggestion would be WebRPG.

Well....you could always visit us in #Shadowrun on undernet, but I'll
warn right now, you'll make alot of folks irritable if you just pop on
and ask if there's a game going on. Usually people will announce that
they're going to be running a game and where it's going to be. Sorry,
there's no definates as to when a game would start up.

Would anyone like to give a quick review of the SR MUSH? I've always
wanted to stick my head in, but I've never found the time.

Not a long one, cuz my time is evaporating...

Decent place, but be prepared to put ALL your writing skills to the test.
Also...the regulars can be INCREDIBLY cranky towards newbies (we've all had
to hear them +whine. A lot. Incessantly.), so don't take it personally.
Finally....have initiative, or be prepared to sink.

I propose an online shadowrun game! Tonight or tommorow. I say we use
ventrilofor voice chat and MSN for whiteboard, file sharing, and
regular chat. Any takers? Whos got an adventure they want to run?
We''ll get characters made up in say.. Word or some similar office
program, send them to the GM via MSN then go from there.

I'm itching to play, and I haven't been able to get a group drummed up
for quite awhile now.

Personally I've only ever played SR4, but if the consensus (or whoever
wanted to GM) was to play SR3 I would be willing to try it out.

I am very interested, but I have a thesis, and grad applications to
finish, and my wife is almost due in a week with our first. If you do
find a group of online players, I would like to join in about a month or so.

What time zone are you talking about? Does it have to be MSN for
chat, vice AOL or Jabber?

Eep...so many Microsoft products. I'm kind of interested in this sort of thing, but
unless the protocols you want to use have a Linux client then count me out.

Gaim and OpenOffice.org come to my mind. (Although maybe PDFs would be a
better choice for exchanging files for this kind of game than
office-suite-type docs.)

For those interested in online play, but without the time to get into
a real-time game, check out www.rpol.net, a gaming webforum that is
quite nice.

I am currently seeking 3-4 players for an SR3 game on that site.
There are plenty of good games and good gamers lookng for games to
join or players to GM for.

I proposed MSN because of the intergrated whiteboard, If jabber or AIM
have a similar option then I am willing to go with whichever. But I
guess if we want the lowest common denominator, then we could do IRC
for the chatting part.

Jamison - I hope this will be a ongoing thing, so whenever you wanted
to join will be cool Good luck with everything you have going on!

Ventrilo for the voice chat has a windows, macOS and linux client, so
that should be fine for voice chat. Do any of you know of a
crossplatform whiteboard app? Something we can all draw on and share
notes and documents to each other easily?

My time zone is EST.

I would be up for skyp, does it have a whiteboard function and file
sharing though?

Sorry about that. I'll try to mind it in the future.

Peruse these two websites/programs and pipe up what you guys think of them:

http://www.imaginationcubed.com/LaunchPage

or

http://www.gcn.cx/

What exactly is GCN?
GCN is an online communication service that has everything you could
possibly need, including chat rooms, games, voice, video, instant
messages, file transfer, a translator, whiteboards, a co-branding kit,
and much more. While on GCN, you can talk to family, friends,
co-workers, or even meet new people in public or private rooms. GCN
does not ask you for any personal information, nor does it use Spy
ware and other illegal software like some of its competitors. The
best part is, though, that GCN will always be 100% free.

OK.. I have been messing around with GCN for the last little bit, and
it seems promising, Anyone who wants to download it and test it out
can find me on there as JRotten

Interesting, but not really useful - you really want to be able to share
maps that you've already prepared, rather than draw them up by hand.

Stinks like spyware to me. User reviews are all either
a) It doesn't work in a fundamental way (ie - you can't chat, it closes
5 seconds after starting, that sort of thing)
b) The installer puts ID crap and running programs on your computer that
doesn't get removed when the program is.

c) OMG I just creamed myself, it's that good (ie - marketing goons or
morons - seriously people, it's a chat program).

Also, the 5-star ratings they have on their webpage are a bit shifty.
Tucows has them rated at 2 stars, and ZDnet has them at one. The other
two sites appear to be pay-for-play sites - they have no real
explanation for their ratings. Brothersoft for instance has either
5-star ratings for their stuff, or no ratings at all.

Thank you but no Mr. Johnson, you're going to have to find someone
else to do that job ;)

Based on a) and b) I wouldn't go near that piece of software with a 10' pole.

Fyi, Ventrilo and TeamSpeak work great. TeamSpeak has an advantage in
that it's easier to install and set up your own server on your own
computer (at least it was for me). I was able to install and run both
the TS server and client and City of Heroes on the same computer
without any problems. Ventrilo isn't as user friendly but the voice
quality has been better in my experience.

Thank goodness this does not run on a Mac.

Ventrilo is awesome for it, thats pretty much a lock as far as voice chat
goes, but on top of that I feel we would need some kind of shared whiteboard
for maps and fight sketching and sharing ideas, and chat would be nice too.
I would love for it to be as cross platform as possible. If anyone has a
good suggestion on a program that does all of that, let me know. I have also
tested a jabber client that does the whiteboard awesomely, but you can only
whiteboard one person at a time. Any ideas? I would love to play this coming
weekend as I have it free so far. I've tried OpenRPG in the past, but the
tree structure made my head explode. I used to love webrpg back in the day,
but I don't think everyone will want to shell out money to play, same with
ghostorb (and I don't even think they have officially launched yet).
I'm up for suggestions. Feel free to email me off list if anyone wants.

I've done perfectly satisfactory SR online with only text and a die roller.
IMHO anything further would slow things down.

Theres allways that too. But if I get stuck GM'ing it, I have a hard time
keeping track of combat and inferring everyones intentions if I can't have
my players sketch it out. I just thought it would be nice to have to
reference too. Anyone else have any input as to if they feel a whiteboard is
needed? Or anyone else willing to GM?

I could, I believe there's a basic Seachat site out there somewhere. DRSL
does not seem to be quite as up as it claims to be.

What is DRSL? Let me know if you find a link for the seachat site.

Dark Relic Seattle, I believe the link is to Darkrelic.net. If you can get
logged in, let me know
