Greenville, South Carolina; that game appears to have fallen apart before
getting started, due to player time constraints. I've had several requests
from friends of mine not on the ShadowRN list to GM an online SR4 game which
we can run at our convenience, and I think I'm going to actually make an
offer to the rest of the ShadowRN list to run such a game. You heard me
right -- it's an open invitation, folks! Play from the comfort of your own
home!
I plan to use two tools to make playing this game as easy and convenient as
possible for everyone.
1. GameTable ( http://gametable.galactanet.com/ ), which is an online
whiteboard designed for mimicking tabletop RPG game grids. It comes complete
with a infinite grid (square or hex) and "markers" available to all players,
as well as the equivalent of user-importable figurines ("pogs"). One can
also load images under the grid for pre-made areas to explore. It also has a
die-roller built in, so players can either roll real dice and type in the
results or just put in a formula -- e.g. "5D6" will output six individual
die rolls (perfect for SR). The best part, of course, is that it's free.
2. TeamSpeak ( http://www.goteamspeak.com/ ) for voice communication, which
is much more personal and a whole lot faster than trying to type everything
into a chat box. The client software is free. I can be flexible on this
point, however -- if someone knows of a better voice chat tool, I'd love to
hear of it.
I also have forums on my personal site that I use for gaming information and
discussion; I won't post those here yet, since I need to clean them up and
archive the SR game that was using that space to avoid confusion. I'll use
that space for posting announcements, documents, session summaries, and the
like.
There are two basic requirements I'll have to place on players who want to
join: First, that everyone use voice communication of some sort, which means
a headset or microphone/speaker combination. Second, that everyone speak
enough English to follow along; I speak a little German, but that's the sad
extent of my multiculturalism.
I have no particular preference as to the game's starting setting. I'm most
familiar with Seattle, but I'd love to play in a game that isn't based
there, or at least goes elsewhere -- mostly because all my old GM's games
were Seattle-only. I also want players to have a lot of input into what
happens and how; inventiveness and initiative will be rewarded.
If anyone wants to play, let me know and we'll start working out the
logistics. If anyone has comments or suggestions, please speak up too --
this is something of an experiment for me, and I want to make sure it works
well so that everyone has fun. I have an overarching plot concept already in
place and a starting run or two, so as soon as we have enough people, we can
get started.
