Guys, the following is something I received from one of my players in the PBEM
(Azltan Summerfest). It's a self-detailed description of what she looked like
after being nailed by the darkest of IC. I wanted to know what you all
thought of it. I personally think it is one of the finer, summarized,
versions of what Black IC can do to a decker in a Red System -IF- they survive
it.

This is a great descriptive piece of writing. I can smell the burnt
electronics
already (as well as other odours).
The whole "IC & Dump Shock" thing usually gets glossed over a bit
in our games but then again it has been ages since we integrated a decker
PC.

Very nice, I must say!
Another thing that can be played with quite a bit is the effect of drain
on magicians...anything from killer headaches to bleeding from the
orifices. MY phys mage, Faedra, tends to bleed unpleasantly from the
eyes, nose, and mouth when she takes phys drain, as well as some NASTY
charley horses, etc from spasms. Anyone else's ideas for the form drain
takes?

Now that's a name I haven't heard for quite a while. I'm pretty sure he
used to be an RN member. He's got things posted all over the Archive I know.

Oh, I think the Dark Stranger vomited after tossing off a nasty spell at
some horrible nasty monster wandering about Wiltshire, UK...

Profuse sweating and sweating blood are my two favorites though, as are the
occasional pulled muscle.

For some interesting examples of IC, dump shock, and spell Drain, I'd
recommend taking a look at the ShadowTK logs and looking at some of the
shadowruns. Paul J. Adam and Avenger write this sort of stuff very well,
especially for limeys... ;-)

For stun drain, I have aches and pains, general weariness, and so on. For
physical drain, though, I've always ruled that it is due to a backlash of
the mana the magician is channeling, and the effects from that include mana
energy washing over the character (much like the "Oh no, I'm being
electrocuted" special effects), to spontaneous combustion, to (in one
memorable case I had where a player decided to cast his huge force 12
fireball without activating his power focus first) the character's body
seeming to explode with the mana force (the body is left intact... it just
looks like an explosion).

Physical drain is so rare that I like to make it special.

I had one of my characters bleeding from ears and mouth I think, but what
was posted was written much better. And I agree with what he's saying about
Paul J. Adam and Avenger...if only (some) Avenger's posts weren't books in
themselves :).

I say that unless you get over your head and take physical drain, you'll
just fall on your knees panting...
(I wrote a short story where the char suffers drain, but it's in
Portuguese...)
