Please stop posting negative opinions about authors. I am offended
by people ragging on Mr. Findley's works. He is gone from us now,
you won't see any more novels from him. Stop trying to destroy my
memory of him as one of the best contributors to the world of Shadowrun.

If you want to make a comment about authors, just post a list of your
favorite authors and don't include authors you hate.

Thank you. (Flames/Thwaps ==> hbphy009@*****.csun.edu)

Sorry, Ken, but if you are allowed to make opinions about authors,
others should be too. Positive or negative makes no difference. You
are certainly entitled to enjoy whichever works of whichever authors you
like, we are allowed to disagree.

I agree with you 100% kenn... I've read every Shadowrun novel to date, as
well as every short story, and a good bit of the original Gibson/ Sterling
CyberPunk stuff as well, and while I don't necessarily like it all, I'll
continue to read it. Why? Because it's still SR, or enough like it for my
taste.

I get great ideas from these books, and even the worst "hack" novel may and
usually does have a cool idea.

Also, consider this. The books are sanctioned by FASA, and whether you like
it or not, they are most definately a part of the Shadowrun world at large.
They don't have to be a part of your vision of SR, but don't tell everyone
else that so-and-so sucks and shouldn't be considered "true" Shadowrun cause
you don't agree with his vision. Good god, man, if you even knew half of
the ways Steven Tinner and I have butchered this game to liven of up our
game sessions, some of you would go into fits! (This mostly aimed at some
of the rules lawyers in teh group). Most of the time, for me, dice are
strictly sound effect, to make the players nervous.

Anyways, I'm ranting and babbling a bit, and I apologize, but I get highly
annoyed by this shit. I quit one mailing list (The Star Wars RPG list)
because it kept degenereating about once every two weeks or so into an
argument about which authors are good and what should and shouldn't be
considered "canon" material. I look at it, and have two thoughts:

1) If it has the FASA seal of aproval (or George Lucas's in teh Star Wars
case), then consider it official canon, for all intents and purposes, unless
FASA says otehrwise, because you can bet they do, whether the writing was
good, bad, or mediocre.

2) If I don't like sonmething, it gets changed in my world. To quote a
friend... "In my world, the jets fly backwards..."

Ok, rant over, go back to reading normal mail... But please, no more of the
"this author sux" bullshit, cause it gets real old, and makes whoever posted
it look real stupid.

Also, on a semi-related note, can we all please stop this silly arguing,
especially about other RPG's and people's handles... and if you do feel the
need to criticize, watch your tone. There are a few people that have
started sounding like real assholes the last few days, and maybe they even
have a valid point, but try to put your comments in a helpful, somewhat
friendly manner. Don't blast a newbie cause you don't agree with him, and
everyone's gonna disagree about game systems and style genres. If you are
bothered that much by a post, either try to state your concern a little more
concisely and legibly (none of this "if you think that, you should be shot"
crap), or take it to private e-mail and flame each other to your hearts
content. We don't need to see it...

Ken, nobody wants to destroy your literature idols. I just expressed
my personal opinion, nothing else.

No, I won't. You have to accept that there are other opinions about
things you possible like. Hey, cheer up some!

:)

Just because somebody's dead you have to have nothing but praise for them?
I think not...

Nobody's trying to do that, they're just saying what they didn't like
about his books. That's not the same thing.

Discussing would mean pointing out negative aspects, too. If this hurts you,
find out how to delete messages w/o opening them. But don't whine.

Gimme a break, Ken. They're entitled to their opinion too.
