Hi.

Wandering around assembling my Xmas list, I remembered that I hadn't
gotten any SR books since Year of the Comet.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, I'm back buying now, and I need to know:

Among the following books, what order were they released in and what
order should I get them in so I'm not confused?

-Magic In The Shadows

-Target: Awakened Lands

-Target Wastelands

-Threats 2

-Shadows of North America

-Survival of the Fittest

-State of the Art: 2063

The price comes to $145+ total for all of them, so I'm going to
HAVE to shave down. (Alternatively, I could use my Amazon GCs (of which
I oft recieve many) if they were actually purchaseable via
Amazon....*sobs*)

So, which ones are essential for making sense of matters, and which
are "cool but not needed"? Keep in mind I'm at a college where RPGs are
ignored by the student body, so I play mostly online. (Anybody w/
PBEMs, let me know. I need my fix BADLY)

Here is my personal list, in order of necessity and fun to not so:

Magic In the Shadows (Basic magic expansion book, I couldn't live
without it right now)
Shadows of North America (Basic background book)
Target: Awakened Lands (One of my favorites)
Target: Wastelands (My other favorite =)
SOTA: 2063 (Eh, this book isn't high on my list of good books, but it
has good game information)
Threats 2
Survival of the Fittest

Hope this helps!

1999. This is the oldest book. It's also the most useful _rules_ book, if
rules are your thing.

> -Target: Awakened Lands

2001. If you're keen for a little extra magic, then this could be your book.
Likewise, if you're keen on Australia, then this _is_ your book. Otherwise,
it's not entirely useful ;-). It's definitely the second oldest book,
though. It does have a few additional magic rules, which could be useful if
you're running a magic heavy game.

> -Threats 2

2002. Out right at the start of this year. Useful if you liked the original
Threats book, or are interested in SR metaplot information.

> -Shadows of North America

2002. Out towards the start of this year. A new review of the North American
continent. I'm still reading it... :-) Seems pretty good, though.

> -Target Wastelands

2002. Out earlier this year. Looks cool. Came out after Shadows of North
America. I haven't read it yet... :-(

> -State of the Art: 2063

2002. Out not too long ago (3 months?). Quite cool. New toys, new magic, new
gear, new rules, all round rather cool. It also updates pop culture and
society with the latest fads. Mostly useful for it's new gear sections (both
palyer and GM oriented).

> -Survival of the Fittest

2002. Just out. Brand new. It's a bunch of interwoven runs, much like
Brainscan.
