John, try giving them the cash and asking them to do it for you. Take the
initiative and show them that you are sincere about this, but at the same
time, not a scarey fanatic. If they begin to have a more solid problem, ASK
them to talk about it with you in a civil, intelligent, manner sometime. I
*KNOW* you are intelligent, now just prove it to them.

Actually, no. I'm under 18. In the US, if you're under 18, parents have to sign
checks. Money orders these days are largely done with credit cards, too, at least
from what I've seen.

Go down to a US post office and ask for a money order for $X. Then give them
$X and 80 cents in cash. No ID needed, no signatures, no excuses, no whatever.
If you need to send outside the US get an international money order in the same
way save that the 80 cents part is a little bit higher.

I'd love to know who's issuing money orders from credit card, because
I was under the strong impression that that's something that's Just
Not Done in the money order industry.

Every single establishment that I've seen that issues money orders
absolutely refuse to take payment by check or credit card. They only
issue a money order if you give them payment in cash, though some
places do accept direct electronic transfer by Automatic Teller Debit
Card. They will not accept check or credit card because those are a
higher risk for fraud.

Many CC companies have checks you can write out drawn off your CC. Maybe
that's what is being refferred to?

True US post office charges 85 cents for a money order, limit is $700.00 US
per money order.

Also many banks will be able to cut either a Cashier's check or a Bank
Draft for x amount, they need to know who it is to and you have to goto the
bank and get it from a teller tho.

Bank cheques are when you make a withdrawal from the bank as a cheque.

Largely but you can presumably still get paper money orders. I know I order
stuff from American sources with an American Express money order in $US

Do you have a "Seven Eleven" or "Village Pantry" or similar store.
Even
larger grocery stores that have "customer service desks" have the ability to
get Money Orders. And they don't ask for ID and the like here at least, as
long as you give them the money, they don't really care where the check is
going.

Now admittedly, where you are at may have different restrictions than we have
here, but I'd think there are *always* options.

Money orders (paper) are easily available in the USA for down to 29 cents.

If anybody out there wants to barter game stuff, email me privately --Anders
