I think you're all mssing one valid point.
Any mage that would go to the trouble of researching and designing such a
spell is not likely to get outside where he could use it much.

Odds are he'd be at home on the floor, passed out from ... "drain." ;-)

Hehehehehe, imagine the money your mage could make...if he could pick
himself up outta his "drain" stupor... =).
