As most of you know, I play Con Monkey for Shadowrun (FASA in the past,
FanPro in the present and hopefully Future, if I don't go insane and go on
a WotC Staffer Murder Spree this year :)). In other words, ir's my job to
plan cool shit for you guys.

I will be posting schedules for Origins and Gen Con as soon as I get
confirmations on times and such from the Convention Organizers. IN the
mean time, here's a bit of a teaser...

CONCRETE JUNGLE

We're going to start trying a couple of new things this year. One of those
is the new Concrete Jungle Convention Campaign Series. The idea behind CJ
is to have a series of Convention One shots that are "Ordered" and numbered
and form a Campaign of One SHot games using the same characters (A one shot
game is just a fancy term for a single, self contained 4 hour game at the
conventions). The CJ games can be played as a normal one off game (You
shouldn't need information from previous games to enjoy the current game),
though they will help in the overall experience...

CJ #1 and #2 will be run at Origins, and will be rerun at Gen Con along
with CJ #3 (Possibly run twice, depending on the GMs and schedules).

SHADOWRUN 101

People have questions. Lots of Questions about Shadowrun, especially when
it pertains to the rules. This is the place to get them answered. We will
be running a 2 hour seminar that will feature various FanPro Shadowrun
Writers presenting short segments discussing the various areas of Shadowrun
(Decking, Rigging, Magic, General) and how to use them in your games
(Especially Decking and Rigging, since those are two areas that everyone
shys away from). Besides a basic "How To", there will also be a general
Q&A about the rules, and we'll do our darndest to answer
those. Tentatively Scheduled are Jon Szeto and Steve Kenson to handle
Rigging and Magic, respectively (Though it might be fun to switcha nd see
how they do :)). Decking will most likely be covered by a couple of the
Freelancers, including myself and Elissa Carey.

ORIGINS:

Besides the 2 CJ games, Origins will feature 6 additional One Shot Games,
and somewhere in teh neighborhood of 6-7 2-Hour Demo games and 4 4-hour
demo games.

Besides those, of course, is the major event of the Con... The Shadowrun
Tournament. Like Gen Con last year, we will be doing an 8 Team
Non-Elimination style Tournament. This means all players progress through
all three rounds, and the best teams win at the end.

>>>>>
Shadowrun, Collector's Edition:
You're hired to pull off the score of a lifetime: Steal the Maltese Falcon
from the Smithsonian in the FDC before it goes on display. The risk is
high, but so is the reward. Will survive to make the delivery? This is a 3
round, non-elimination tournament. All teams advance to the second and
third rounds, with the best teams winning!
<<<<<

GEN CON

Gen Con will feature the aforementioned CJ games, as well as a good number
of other One Shots and Demo's, plus, of course, the Tournament. The GC
Tourney will be a 12 Team Non Elimination Tourney (As above). The blurb
for it will read:

>>>>>
Shadowrun, Black Market Round-Up:
They called it the Crime of the Century: A priceless piece of Dunkelzahn's
legacy, stolen from the Smithsonian. You've been selected to help recover
it. The question is, was it just a well-planned robbery, or will the
Maltese Falcon add another chapter to its own deadly legacy? This is a 3
round, non-elimination tournament. All teams advance to the second and
third rounds, with the best teams winning!
<<<<<

For those interested in playing, we will most likely be running these
during an Evening Timeslot (Tentatively set for 7-11PM). Of course, that
Time is unconfirmed until I get something from the Convention people, and
even then is iffy... And if they mess with my games again this
year... The Tournament will change a bit... The winning team is the one
that bags the most WotC employees :] (For Gen Con, anyways. I'll give the
GAMA people the benifit of the doubt until after Oirgins... Then I'll cuss
em out :))

Cool. All we need to do now is find some poor shmuck, *ahem* sorry, I mean selfless
individual to record it and put it out on the web for those of use who can't attend. :)

Will the SR 101 also cover some of the same topics like previous years 'What's Up With
Shadowrun' talks or is there going to be a possible separate talk for that, if one happens
at all?

Stupid question - for me at least cause I think I may've asked this like 3 or
4 times already over the past year... When and where is the Gen Con again? I
think I let it slip from memory because it was too far away but I've moved
back east and if I recall correctly it was in Ohio wasn't it?

GenCon is in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, usually in August.

The one in Columbus, Ohio, is Origins, and is held in July.

This would be cool, and is a possiblity. I'm not real sure what all's
gonna happen with this yet though, TBH.

>Will the SR 101 also cover some of the same topics like previous years

Errr, it depends :]

The idea is that the Seminar will be broken into several sections. Each
section will cover a facet of the Shadowrun rules, and will porbably start
with a short example of play, a brief walk through for those that don't
really know the rules, and will then open up for explanation and questions
and stuff. We're still hammering out the details, if you couldn't tell. :]

This particular seminar will focus strictly on Rules. There will be a
normal "What's up with Shadowrun" Seminar run by Rob that will address
upcoming products, the game lines, etc, and ROb always does a Q&A for that
as well, so we'll be directing any "Game world" questions at Robs seminar :]

Well, outside of the Tournaments, very little is really written out in
"Postable" format. It's all up to the GM how they want to run their one
shot games, and most use an outline and some notes, at best.

I will hopefully have the tournaments posted this weekend. They should
have been posted before, but... I get distracted, Adam's never gotten
around to playing with the 2001 GC Tourney and getting it posted to the
official site, and well... We're slackers. :]

So I have a side note. I know you guys go for Origins and Gencon,
but what about our biggest west coast con? Dundracon is in San Ramon CA
every presidents day weekend, and they almost never have an "official" games
besides Living City. Ohh well get Flying Buffalo, and the like, but never
an official SR game or official Deadland game or anything. Hell, White Wolf
even does stuff over here! I'm beginning to feel like the left out
step-child! <pout>

I don't attend any US cons, since I can't just hop in a plane
and go to another continent at my whim :), but this is definitely
something I'd like to see made available (perhaps on the Net) after the
events are over. Just the kind of thing I need for my home games :).

Which reminds me, are the modules that were ran in last year's
cons available anywhere now? You had said something about that at the
time.

I'd like to see them as well, if you need sufficient numbers to justify
this. In order that this isn't a "me too" post I'd like to add that they
would be good to run at UK conventions, if I manage to get to them...

What, like GenCon UK? Yeah, right... they can't even get enough GMs for the games
that are being run already -- think about what'd happen if they were to add even
more...

(In case any GCUK organization type person happens to be reading this (which I
sincerely doubt, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong :) what I think the problem
is, is that they start with the games they want to run, instead of with the
available GMs.)

True, but I was thinking more of Volunteering people (eg me or someone
else I know who ran a Sr game at the last Gencon UK...:-)
or at least having something to run impromptu..

Looks good, except for some reason I can't seem to read round three- all I get is a '404

Is it just something wrong at my end or has anyone else had problems with it?

Those adventures should work fairly well for that, yeah. I thought you meant they
should be run as RPGA events, in which case you'd better volunteer to GM them,
too...

Apparently, it'll have more floors than last year so it might not suck too badly
(last time round wasn't too great...). Now if only they would do the organized
gaming right, and provide more room for delegate-organized games so we won't get
asked to leave the table again because they need it...

The Link to Gen Con 2001 Round 3 is fixed. The links are case sensitive,
unfortunately, and I had a lower case "k" in GC2K1_round3.pdf

Ahh well. All fixed. ENjoy.

gah. much as I'd like too, I know how my life works. I have enough
difficulty making it to a shadowrun game I've been invited to, let alone
running something - I was ready to do something like that for Dragoncon in
december of last year, and life intervened, so I wouldn't like to promise
to do soemthing, and then have to pull out..

So, is anyone planning on GM'ing at Gencon uk this year?

Gen Con is in Milwaukee Wisconsin this year. Next year it might be in
Indianapolis, IN.

We're going... don't know about GM'ing. I have a niggly feeling that I volunteered one of
us to do it this year, but Gen Con was so long ago I can't quite remember.

Who else is planning to go?

As I recall, you said something along the lines of, "Next year, Mike or I
could GM a game" :)

Like I said in my other post, I'll probably be there, but I don't know for
sure yet; it's still about 7 months away, after all.

If I'm there (I don't know yet, but I guess I will be :) I wouldn't mind running
another game.

Hey, Bull, the Origins 2k "Night of the Comet" links don't appear to work...
