Yes. At the moment, my job mostly involves cleaning up the factory during
the tail end of renovations -- which is alot of heavy lifting, and for
those of you who know how much I weigh.. it's fairly obvious that heavy
lifting isn't my thing.

Things will hopefully improve once harvest actually starts and I get
transferred to the Tare Lab. (The place where we test the Beets to make
sure they're decent quality..)

Just out of curiosity how do you test a Beet for quality? And yes I am
serious, well mostly anyway.

Yeah sure that's what they all say. :)

Yeah, although I was informed by my foreman today that at this location in
the factory we don't get overtime until we hit 40 hours a week, whereas
outside on the Beet Pilers we get overtime after 8 hours a day, so I
actually only made 106.50 yesterday, and today.. and tommorrow, and
Thursday.. but Friday would be 159.75, except there's no way in hell I'll
be alive by then :)

No clue. I asume they'll teach us that -- although they did tell me I would
probably instead be working on the Tare Sample, which is where we take the
beets out of the load and give them to a guy on a forklift who takes them
to the sampler.

I would guess they test the guts to determine how close it is to the guts
that produce the "best" sugar.

And before anyone asks, no clue why it's a "Tare".

Yes, I'm a skilled employee -- just not at lifting 420lb radioactive boxes.

Is this a permanent job, or just a temp one until you find something decent?
(Or until the next semester starts, or whatever??)

To provide a baseline for the crop, I'd guess. The crop as a whole will
have fluctuations in quality (good growing season/hail in july), and
some parts of the crop will do better than others. A tare sample would
determine a baseline for the entire crop, from which the others could
be graded relative to how well the crop as a whole did this year.

All extrapolated from the word "tare" and memories of high school
chemistry... :-)

"Tare" can roughly be translated as "calibration". Most commonly you
"tare" a scale by setting it to read zero when the only thing on it is the
empty container you are about to put things in.

Then let it. Both of you just added two messages, and prolonged it's
life.

<Gridsec advice>
The way for a thread to die is for people to stop replying to it.
</Gridsec advice>

(And I know I am countering my own point by replying, but I wanted to
state the obvious, since it went unnoticed.)

Which is really really odd, since this thread was STARTED by GridSec. (For
no real apparent reason).

Read the FAQ.
There is nothing in the FAQ forbidding OT threads, just the
continuation of them behind a reasonable period of time.

This list would be very boring indeed if not for the occassional OT
post.

If anyone has any questions, or wishes to continue this thread,
contact me privately.

There *WAS* a reason. I'll get to that after I say...

And people seem determined not to let it die...
"The thread that would not die.... Starring, the members of shadowrn....
You'll cower as Gridsec tried to kill, kill, kill....
You'll thrill as the carp start flying....
You'll not be chill, when the flames start rolling in....

Only one man, can kill it...."
Etc...

Anyway, the only reason this started was because our assistant fearless
leader wanted to warn us that he's got a full time job now, and won't have
much time to admin the list.

</primal scream therapy> AAAARRRRGGHHH! <end/primal scream therapy>

(did I get that notation right? I don't do HTML.)

Please, please, let this thread die . . . The Dumb Things thread is on
life support and could use the attention instead.

Pretty please. I feel like I'm having a monologue with my list of Dumb
things. I've only be gaming 16 - 18 years, surely everyone else has an
endless story of those stories to share - and it's so much more fun to
read about other people's stupidity as opposed to my own . . .

Thank you for saying that Spike. It makes me feel good that at least some
people bothered to notice the important point of my post.

Until beet season is over, after which I shall be endeavouring to find a
job that doesn't involve wallowing around in 6 month old mud for 7 hours.
Probably going to be at least a couple months, though.

I noticed, but just chose to ignore it for more interesting topics

Grass is always greener huh? ;) I think there are rich women here in
Arizona that pay big bucks to wallo (sp?) in six month old mud.
