I received this from CNN.

>DEVELOPING STORY
>
>LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Several Arab and Muslim groups in
>California received threatening phone calls Tuesday in response
>to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the
>Pentagon. Maha Elgenaidi, executive director of the Islamic
>Networks Group in San Jose, said "a lot of Islamic Centers have
>shut Web sites down because of the amount of hate mail they
>were getting." Her organization received two "hate" calls after
>the attacks. Elgenaidi said the first caller told her to "get
>the hell out of this country. You people have done nothing but
>ruin this country. You don't belong here. Your religion is
>vile and evil."

This almost makes me feel worse than I did when I watched the WTC towers
collapse.

Muslims and people of Middle East decent were not responsible for the
destruction of the WTC or the attack on the US Pentagon.

A few people with a very, very warped view of the world were responsible
for yesterday's tragedy. They are the ones who should be held responsible,
not every Muslim or Arab.

I hope the small-minded people who are expressing their anger at all
Muslims or Arabs will come to their senses soon.

To Life,

I agree totally. I can see (not just in the US) some overreaction coming down
on Muslim/ Islamic groups, even those that have been dedicated to peace for
years.
Yesterday, hours after it happened, someone told me "see, this is why we
have to go wipe out those damn Israelis" "Uh, the Israeli's are the other
side"
"whatever, they're all the same"

This doesn't mean the US is stupid, but we do have our share of hot-heads &
idiots. I haven't heard much about the neo-nazi groups over seas in teh last
year, but I imagine their numbers will swell.

</snip a lot about misaimed hatred>

This is a very sad repercussion of recent events indeed. Thankfully, the
government that will rally our defense and possible retaliation is not quite
as narrowminded, however expect it to get worse as far as humanity and
bigotry is concerned. It's a despicable fact of human nature. Some people
just look for a reason to hate, and this to them is it... I expect there will
be a lot of atrocities commited upon anybody who even looks like they're from
the Middle East if there haven't been already. Pray for these people because
they are the most tragic of the innocents, those that will catch the blame
for these horrific incidents.

I agree. It's wrong to assume all Muslims/Arabs are the culprits and
it's wrong to attack them because of their faith or heritage. But maybe
it's time for American Muslims/Arabs to apply pressure to their brethren
overseas. Because while not all Muslims were involved, it appears at
this time that there were Muslims involved.

According to Iridios, on Thu, 13 Sep 2001 the word on the street was...

Be realistic... If that would work, wouldn't the troubles in, for example,
Israel, Northern Ireland, or Indonesia have ended long ago? Because with all
of those, there are people of similar beliefs, or even ones (almost)
directly involved, in other countries trying to apply pressure. Still, all
that keeps going on without an apparent end to it any time soon. Why would
the pressure of American muslims, who are probably seen as decadent by the
populace of poor Arab countries anyway, help?

I found out something interesting after moving to Minneapolis- this city has
one of the highest Islamic populations of any in the US. Some of my
co-workers are from Iraq, in fact, and I admire thier work ethic and thier
lifestyle. The health center I work at happens to have a "center for
victims of governement torture", which is exactly what is sounds like. That
place is very buisy with various refugees, many of them from Islamic
nations. So I'm not gonna go making any assumptions about how my Islmaic
neighbors could possibally affect the attitudes of foreign terrorist
organizations- its preposterous to think that.
