and thus did Jonny D. Robinson speak on 15 Jul 98 at 17:04:

episode 28 in the third series:

An animated item ends with a sign saying "And now, the Fish Slapping
Dance".
Cut to quayside. John and Michael, dressed in tropical gear and solar
topees. John stands still while Michael dances up and down before him
to the jolly music of Edward German. Michael holds two tiny fish and
from time to time in the course of the dance he slaps John lightly
across the cheeks with them. The music ends; Michael stops dancing.
John produces a huge great fish and swipes Michael with it. Michael
falls of the quay into the water.

I don't remember if it was a carp, I tend to buy my fish cut in
slices, but that has to be the source of the Thwap. It had me
crippled with laughter for some time, specially with the fish scenes
that followed :).

Sorry old buddy you are wrong.

The fish in question was a Herring.
Monty Python had a real herring fetish
(Don't even bite on that!)
