While I personally never cared for the game, the setting was solid, and the
background could be easily used with SR.
I know a few people on this list really liked the game, so I though I'd post
this for everyone.

Dark Conspiracy to Live Again

Archangel Entertainment To publish the next edition of Dark Conspiracy

PUBLISHER'S PRESS RELEASE

Archangel Entertainment ( an adventure game publisher) announced today that
it has concluded an agreement to publish the next edition of DARK
CONSPIRACY, the award winning near-future horror/sci-fi game system designed
by Lester Smith. Originally released in 1992 by the now defunct Game
Designers‚ Workshop, DARK CONSPIRACY has continued to attract players and
devotees in print and on the web.

Ken Whitman, president of Archangel Entertainment, noted "When I first read
through DARK CONSPIRACY, it gave me the creeps. I started pursuing the
license the next day."

Archangel Entertainment is joined in this project by Lester Smith, the award
winning original designer of Dark Conspiracy; he commented "GDW knew my
passion for horror games, so it didn't take much to talk me into designing
one. I threw myself into DARK CONSPIRACY, heart and soul, and nurtured the
line with fiendish love. I'm excited to see it coming back into print!"

DARK CONSPIRACY originally appeared in 12 products and modules. Archangel
plans to revise the game system into a DARK CONSPIRACY REFEREE‚S GUIDE (256
pages, $20) and a DARK CONSPIRACY PLAYER‚S HANDBOOK (256 pages, $20) in
May of 1998 followed by three follow-on modules by the end of the year.

I ran the Dark Conspiracy adventure _Heart_of_Darkness_ as a Shadowrun and
it went pretty well. I'd suggest changing the ending, though, as it's a bit
beyond SR.

Neat idea at the center of the plot, though, and some good travelling
(Sydney, Rio, Baghdad, Nigeria, Hong Kong).

If you are interested in having some horrors in your campaign, then Dark
Conspiracy has great ideas that can be easily converted (although you
can use toxic spirits and shamans instead of some of the dark minions) .
The Virtual Seattle module I wrote, "A Late Night's Shopping" was a
conversion from an introductory DC game I ran for some friends a few
years ago.
Just as a matter of interest, if anyone out there has played "A
Late Night's Shopping", what did you think of it? Once it went to the
RPGA headquarters, I never received any feedback

cheers
Geoff

So is Dark Conspiracy any good (considering I think SR is pretty much
tops)? How useful would it be to pick up a book or two as background info
or adventures for SR? And how hard is it to translate Dark Conspiracy to
SR stats?

Thanks,

Erik J.

I have played and judged this RPGA module. As a player, it was hard and I
am told that before it was even harder (before RPGA or whoever toned down
the bad critter thingie). When I did play it, the person who was judging
it really did not play up the horror aspect of the scenario, which in my
opinion was the best part. As a judge, I found that it was not to bad of
a run as long as the runners played smart. If they were gunho they were
meat. I really enjoyed animating the mannequins and watching my players
faces when they were cutting them down with full-auto fire and the still
kept coming. Good run, I really did not let them get into a direct
confrontation with the bad critter thingie ca that would have been
disastrous. :} One of the more humorous events in the game is when one of
the players threw a white noise generator at the mannequins "to confuse
them with the noise" If anyone gets a chance to play these Virtual Seattle
run I recommend it.

This reminds me of the time on of my players attacked a group of
ghouls, after throwing in a Flash pak. :)

Depends on what you're interested in. If you liked the old horror around
every corner chances are you'll like DC.

It's pretty useful IMO. As for conversions subtract for from a stat and you
got a good SR area conversion and cyber or magic is just a judgement call.
