I liked it being a dead end. The troopers ran because they thought Han
was several people, so when they reached the end they turned around to
make their stand, and everyone was surprised.

Also a little bit of movie irony:
When Obi-Wan says about the hit on the Jawa transport:
"Only storm troopers are this precise."
