Yes ! \:-D

The basic Hayden's categories are useables here... I mean I agree to tell
others i'm 25-35 for example, but I don't want to say i'm 26...

>Thus, X78.fr would be a female gamer, born in 1978, who lives in France.

I'm looking for one of these, do you have any more in stock ? :-P

You don't expect your code to hold on until 2074, but you do expect
computer rpg's player to use it ? :-D

Maybe a SFA for fantastic... it's (near) modern day, with supernaturals,
but without the horror flavor.
Like Vampire The Masquerade should be in horror, a settings in modern day
with psionicists should be "fantastic". Or you use SSF settings, even if
there is no science in it ?
You also forget super-heros settings (it fit in SFA, but with a very
distinctive flavor). Maybe SSH ?
Maybe a SH for humoristic ? For Toon Rpg, Paranoia Rpg, and so on ?

>a Average person (someone without special skills or abilities)

A little cyberpunk oriented this :-)

>i Investigator
>l Law-enforcement type

These two are really different ??

>m Magician
>p Psionicist

Same thing here... maybe replace them with a kind of spell caster category
(and include priest/cleric in it)

>s Superhero or -villain

As I said I think this should be a Settings... like in SSH:Rm if you like
be a spellcasting robot in super heroes games, or SSH:UI if you prefer be a
vampire-cop.

Maybe a jack of all trades category here ? Not average person (same bulding
points/other system as the others players), but with a little skills in
every domain you could think about...

We need here a special code to indicate that the abbrevation is specific to
a country... if I say SF:@[RdD] I doubt non-french speaking players will
understand I like to play whatever characters in Rêve de Dragon...
Maybe a | ? Or € ?

That should not be "I dont want to play !" ?

Typo here... f+++ for the first

>GM! I'm always stuck being the GM because nobody else wants to!

That should not be "GM!!" ? And GM! like "Me GMing ? Over my dead body
!" ?

>h---- I'm Ivy Ryan.

For personnal culture.. who is Ivy Ryan ??

You forgot the hanging around category... from "I play in club, and like to
play with total strangers" to "only at home with friends and relative"

Also the computer related thing...something like (correct the english

C++ I play Everquest every night
C+ These are fun, I play when I have the time
C I've tried once

C-- Computer games stole our own newbies !
C--- Real rpg gamers dont need electrons to get their fix

C? You mean there is more than email and usenet on computers ??
C! I got a flame-thrower ready just in case I meet a computer gamer...

The pro involvement thing... something like :
P+++ I'm Rob Boyle
P++ I make a living with a publisher/disitrbutor/reseller/magazine
P+ Sometimes a write of mine is published and I get money for it
P I've been published once/I write few things for fanzine or nerp
P- I try to give advices/opinions to pro when they listen
P-- My friends always ask to read my ideas/scenarii/house rules
P--- I work for myself, don't need to share it or get paid

P? Real people are writing these books ? I though it was Santa Claus !
P! I don't want to be a pro, this should stay a hobby ! Burn capitalist !

The internet involvment:
I+++ I'm Adam Jury
I++ I own a major rpg website (dumpshock like)
I+ My website is well known (plastic warrior)
I My website don't receive as much hits as it deserve
I- Got one, try to update it time to time

I--- Too boring to code

I? HTML what ??
I! W3C is an pawn of the Devil !
I!! I'm reading GCC code on public toilets wall, don't know what online

I read that, about the non-y2K compliance, and assumed he didn't expect to
hit any 100 year old gamers. :)

Actually, I don't expect the code to still be in use a hundred years from
now, when the distinction between being born in 1974 or 2074 gets important
to people deciphering it :)

They are, but I decided against it because you have keep updating it. By using
the year you were born, you put it down once and that's it. What I could do is
add a category for giving just the decade, not the exact year (something like
Z7* for example).

Only an X78.nl, I'm afraid.

You never know, it might catch on... :)

You could use SMO/F or SF/MO...

I leave that up to you, though I could add suggested setting codes for each of
the games in the list.

Good points.

It is? I tried covering as many bases as possible, and that means ending up
with broad categories. You'll note that the examples tend to be "classes" from
different genres. Or were you just talking about the computer hacker? That's
true, but "magician" is rather fantasy-oriented, and it's not as if you can
give a category that will include hackers as well as character types common in
settings that don't have computers (except maybe "criminal," but that's got a
different feel to it).

> >i Investigator
> >l Law-enforcement type

> These two are really different ??

Yes. With investigators, think of people like SR's Detective sample character,
or Dirk Montgomery from the novels. For law enforcement, CP2020's Cop class is
more what I had in mind.

> >m Magician
> >p Psionicist

The reason I made them separate types is because there are plenty of SF games
that have psionics but not magic. I also prefer "magician" to
"spellcaster"
because some games do have magic but little or no casting of spells.

> (and include priest/cleric in it)

That's another one I forgot.

You can play other types of characters in superhero settings, or play
superheroes in games where you're "supposed" to play something else.

Another one I forgot.

Why wouldn't they understand that? The only snag is that Rêve de Dragon isn't
in the games list, but that's easy to fix, in which case it would be clear
enough. This is why I said the games list needs to be expanded, BTW.

No, because this is not the Geek Code, and I didn't define ! as meaning "I
refuse to ..." :)

See above.

Someone who used to be on this list in the mid-'90s and absolutely hated house
rules :)

I'd prefer this too.

I'll say yes. The "i" is the privat detective (ie. Dixon Hill, or even
the Five Friends ;) ) and "l" is someone like Fox Mulder or the generic
Street Cop (IMO).

Yep I was... well I tried too, my mailer betrayed me.... and it was more a
joke than a real comment sorry, hackers are cyber-oriented but still a big
category so it's fine by my humble opinion.

You got weird games in your countries far far away... :-) Ok if there are
plenty.

Good point... but how would you describe you like to play in world with
everyone with a secret id, and hanging on skyscraper's roof in flashy pink
underwear ? :-D

You want to append every game published ? And not published, like the
non-pro rpg ?

You have wayyyyy too much free time :-D

You'd describe that as a superhero setting :)

No, just the ones fairly likely to be played. And remember that this is
optional -- if you can't find your favorite game in the list, then don't
include it but just note the genre.
