I think it has a lot to do with the kind of armour..For
instance..Tinner's buddy may have been wearing a Flak jacket which
doesn't stop bullets all that well..It is designed to stop jagged
fragments from grenades and such..Or perhaps he was wearing the same
style of body armour the guys I work with wear..This stuff isn't all
that thick..So I would tend to believe a lot of the kinetic energy
from a stopped bullet will go ahead and break some ribs..And then
there was the stuff the guys in California were wearing..Did you get
to see this footage Truly awesome video [I know it was RL and RL
people were injured and killed but as an example of how it is it is
awesome] these guys were hit very obviously a couple of dozen
times..puffs from the hits all over their chests..They were not even
phased..But they were wearing -Very- heavy duty armour..Neck to
feet..the one arse blew his own brains out when he ran out of
ammo..Pretty stupid..he would have done a few years and been out..but
no...

And as for firing from the hip..I have always been a good shot when
firing from the hip..Wether it is a shotgun or a paintball gun..I
think it is a bit of a combination of skill and instinct..So as for
stuff like AK-47s I don't know but I doubt it would be much
different..If the person has the skill and an instinct for it..

Not to start a new thread..but..It has been my experiance that the
criminals never do anywhere near the time they are supposedly looking
at...First..plea bargaining..this cuts the 40 down to 20-25 or
possibly way less..then when things are all said and down they get
10-14 days of good time [it is a bit more complex that this] per month
So they end up doing approx 2/3 of whatever time they are given....

It's remarkable how little plea-bargaining there is when the defendants use
military-grade weapons, fire at every person in sight, and are caught in the
act on the local news. <g> The ones that aren't killed by the cops don't see
the light of day for a very long time. (And the LAPD has a reputation of
trying to save our overworked penal system the cost of yet another
incarceration....)

Plea-bargaining and good-behavior leniency are both situational tactics.
Plea-bargaining is meant to save the state the cost of a lengthy
investigation and/or trial. When the defendants are as clearly ID'd as they
were in this case, there's no need to plea-bargain.

More to the point, it would have been political suicide for the Los Angeles
D.A. to plea-bargain felons as violent and well known as the North Hollywood
bank robbers. Had the robbers lived, every Angeleno would have been howling
for their blood. Generally speaking, as soon as a case receives massive media
attention, all the unwritten rules governing plea-bargains and leniency (and
obvious guilt, right, O.J.?) fly out the window.

Now, had this been the stick-up of a Circle-K somewhere off Interstate 5 near
Fresno, plea-bargaining and "good behavior" might well have come into play.

P.S. Since this is fairly OT, this is it for me on this topic unless the
whole can o' worms really opens up.
