Played it and liked it. Too bad everybody else seems to be scared of the
tables (and no, it's not like Rolemaster in that respect).

Really? I've found that PCCS plays pretty fast once you're used to the
system -- which took me all of about half a game.

Were you using the advanced rules? I may have over exagerated the time of
combat abit, (ok, maybe alot :->) but it did take some time though. Gosh I
would hate to think we were slow. But then again, with the group I payed
with it with, they were getting out their ballistic charts and seeing how
accurate the game was.

did you ever get into Living steal or any of the other cutting edge games,
or just stay with Phoenix commnad?

I've been a Rolemaster player for a number of years, and I've always loved
the system. Teaching newbies bites small rodents, but once players
understand their characters, their weapons and spells, and have everything
on neat character sheets and tables, the game goes nice and fast. I've
always liked the depth of their combat system.

Never played Phoenix, but any game with lots of tables and such can be made
much easier if you introduce a computer into the game room. A little bit of
Visual Basic/Access programming, and you've got a program that can shuffle
the tables and roll dice for them in a jiffy.

a certain miniatures version at cons a few years ago.

Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, that program would be illegal. :/

allowed and what's not on their webpage: http://www.ironcrown.com)

I found the same to be true about Rolemaster. :P

I wasn't saying anything against (or for) Rolemaster; what I was saying is
that there is a big difference, IMHO anyway, between the ways the two
systems (RM and PCCS) approach those tables, which probably makes PCCS the
faster and easier game to play, at least for people new to the system.
However, if you show a two-page hit location and damage table to someone
who's never played PCCS before, they tend to not want to play it at all.
Think about what happens when you show them the advanced damage tables
book...

I did just that, though I haven't finished it so far.
