Subject: [OT] Powered-Armor Novels?

Ok, so I just got done re-reading Starship Troopers and I have a hearty
appetite for more novels featuring powered-armor. John Steakley's
Armor (excellent book!) and the Robotech series leap instantly to mind.
Possibly some Battletech stuff, with respect to Elementals as well,
but other than that I'm drawing a blank.

Can anyone make any suggestions for good books that contain powered armor,
hopefully in a significant role?

Well, it's not a book but there is an old computer game called Terra
Nova that uses powered body armor like the elementals in Mechwarrior. Still
a very good game IMHO.

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri. Yes, it is a great game -- I bought it
when it first came out. :-)

David Drake's Northworld trilogy, now available in a single volume.
William C. Dietz' Legion of the Damned, and its sequels (cyborgs, not PA)

All I can think of offhand, but I'm sure there are more.

Uh...wish I could. There was this GREAT sci-fi parody
book, where these intergalactic criminals crash land
on Earth and then we end up with their technology, but
I can't for the life of me remember the name. One of
the funniest things I've ever read.

*sigh*

ILLEGAL ALIENS by Nick Pollota (horribly misspelled his name, but there you
go).

Sounds familiar. That IS the one with the power-suited
"space marines", right?

Now, this may already have been mentioned, but the first one that springs to
mind is 'Starship Troopers' by Heinlein, which isn't primarily about Power
Suits, but has them as an integral part of the plot. Also, there's a short
story by some author I can't recall at the time, called 'Wolf Time', which
in my eyes is *the* PS narrative. It's probably in some military sci-fi
anthology, and it highlights fighting spirit as opposed to the suit. That
came out rather badly (grammatically speaking), but, as the man said, there
you go.

Boom, and indeed ching,

Not to get bludgeoned but if you're looking for SR material
Palladium's Rifts is full of spiffy powered armor.
As for novels, the original Heinlein "Starship Troopers" featured
the mobile infantry in PA (which is why they had no worries about throwing
nukes around like it was going out of style.

I _think_ this thread started with Mark saying he'd read that particular
book and was looking for others with powered armor in them... :)

Ah, my mistake. I didn't catch the beginning of the thread. My
apologies.

Sorry if I missed it, but did anyone mention Armor, by John
Steakley? The action is reminiscient of Starship Troopers (the book), but
a much different backstory.

Yep, I mentioned it in the original posting. :-) I've read it a couple
of times, and am in the mood to re-read it again, but I cannot for the
life of me find my copy of the book. I just saw it a few days ago too.
Grr. I don't even want to talk about the number of books that I have more
than one of because I couldn't find the first copy that I had purchased
and I wanted to read it again .. either that or the book had an
interesting premise, but sucked so bad that I blocked it out, which of
couse caused me to buy it again because I didn't remember how much it
sucked. I hate it when that happens.

Okay, I'm going to bed now. That's a pretty frightening ramble, but I
think I'll post it anyhow. :-)

There's a handy device that's been invented to prevent that from
happening, called a "book case." You may want to see if they are available
in your area ;)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have quite a few of them, actually, the problem is
that my books tend to not make it back tot he bookcase in a timely manner
after I read them. It's a character flaw of mine, I know, but I'm working
on it. :-)

I know the feeling. I have six books in the bathroom, five in the living room, a
bookcase full of them in the bedroom, and two Jaffa Blocks filled with books in
the kitchen. Finding a specific book is pretty tough...
Luckily, I haven't bought the same book twice.
