Using 3 periods is incorrect. Commonly the epllipsis, which looks a
lot like 3 periods, is used for this purpose. When an elipsis is not
is your typeface [As is the case when sending US-ASCII text, and many
other charsets], it is acceptable to use ". . ."
[period-space-period-space-period] instead of an ellipsis, but it
should have a space before it (unlike a period). However using an
ellipsis for this purpose, while a common pratice, is bad writing
style. An elipsis should be used only to indicate that a direct quote
is incomplete or out of context. [For reference, the ellipsis is
