read yet!

Incidentally, this is my first message to ShadowRN since buying my new

Well, I've made characters or otherwise fiddled with every RPG I've
bought. :)

Shut up. Just because I have 11 RPGs I haven't played in the last year,
and still buy supplements for them, doesn't mean anything. <g>

Hi! My name is Kevin, and I'm an RPG-aholic, too. *whimpers* I broke down
last night...I had to do it! I bought...I bought...the GURPS Basic set and
the Compendium I...I tried to stop at just the Basic rules...but once I
started, it was like I was outside my body, and I was watching from above!

Actually, I thought that the Player's Option books (which they
might as well have called 3rd Edition) were pretty decent, if used
judiciously. There was some room for doing stupid things, but also the
potential for fixing lots of problems.
Anyway, for a look at what a real 3rd Edition of AD&D might have
looked like, take a look at Alternity, TSR's latest sci-fi system. If I were
to run an AD&D style game today, I'd probably use a variant on the Alternity
rules. They're close enough to AD&D for decent conversion, but IMHO it's a
better system...possibly because they could build it from scratch and throw out
some of the junk that gradually accretes itself to any long-term project.

Hi Tony. Hi Kevin. It's okay. Everything will be just Okay. Put the
dice down and nobody gets hurt.
