In theory, you are right Spike. However, in practice, you are *SO* wrong in
the end here ... it's about speed and availability. Mark, Adam and everyone
else, have put tons of hours into this (and no small amount of heartache and
grief). I've spent time with a few of them on the phone directly, heard
their voices, and their annoyances at the actions and misreactions of so many
people that have posted here.

It's why so many people go into "lurk" mode when they are normally more
vocal, outgoing personalities, such as myself and Patrick G. Every so often,
you just need a break from it all.

And what does this have to do with "upgrades" and "SOTA" for the email
list?
In a way, everything. It's because of the lists popularity and general sense
of community that once was intensely pervasive, that people want to read this
stuff and want to be a part of it.

Sure, once in a while, massive surges of what *I* personally would call sheer
ignorance and insolent abusiveness erupts from various sources (Bull, behave
... shhh, I'm speaking now... ;-P) but overall, just to get a response time
that is "right now, right here" is worth it sometimes.

Sure, a slower/lower end machine could do the job. But why should it? We
are part of the changing world Spike, even you. And that change means here
and now satisfaction for so many. Does it have to be like this? OF course
not, Mark especially could have just let everything die out so long ago. But
he probably (I'm reaching here perhaps, but I think Mark is worth the reach)
had some really cool memories generated from the members of "the RN List".
And for that reason, he has decided to extend his charity (I will call it
charity, because it is a volunteer basis and he gets next to nothing back it
would seem at times) and see to it the that "the List" (sounds so VH1-ish...
;-) runs smoothly, quickly, and allows for the potential enjoyment he (and
the other admin/gridsec types) got from the list to continue on.

Okay, so I sound philosophical right now ... so what again? I like what has
been done here, and hope that should the day come when they are not there to
volunteer their skills, resources and enjoyment; that someone else will be
there to take up the reigns and continue it on.

Who knows ??? Maybe this really *IS* the beginning of the Deep Resonance ...
come on, feel the heartbeat we've got going here???

I was only talking about the hardware side. Not the amount of effort that
goes into it...
