Actually, that's not true either. The various Orthodox churches (Russian-
Orthodox, Greek-Orthodox, etc.) are not Protestant but they're most
certainly also not (Roman-)Catholic. The best definition of Protestant, I
guess, is that of the various Christian religions that have, at some point
in the past, broken away from Catholicism. My (Dutch) dictionary defines
it as originally meaning the followers of Martin Luther, but today it
refers to the forms of Christianity created after, and/or because of, the
Reformation.

Hence the name Protest-ant (i.e. those who protest the Churches excesses).
