Hmm... I actaully find that i use three periods (...), to indicate that I'm
thinking, or to elaborate that I'm not entirely convinced.

But otherwise I think you are absolutely right about your observations.

The "..." is a valid punctuation mark, called an ellipsis. It indicates
that parts of the sentence have been omitted. It is also commonly used
in informal writing (like email, for example) as a way of indicating
that the writer hasn't thought out the sentence, is just rambling on,
hasn't thought of a proper ending to the sentence, so leaving it out...
