This got me to thinking...

I've had several messages bounced back to me, from Compuserve, via
Shadowrn. I'm kinda curious to see if anyone else has had this sort of
thing, or if it's rather unique.

Especially seeing as I'm not using compuserve, and as far as I know,
neither is this list.

it means that someone subscribed to the mailing list and is a compuserve
member with their mailbox full, probably one of the people that went to Gen
Con and forgot to set NOMAIL

I've had this same problem

Yeah, but that type of mail should NOT be going to the private sender.
Error messages should, at most, go only to the list admins, not to the
original poster.

Yup I've had the same thing happen a few times today. My guess would
be that someone on the list who has a compuserve account went to
gencon and didn't set nomail. Now his mailbox is full so messages from
the list are bouncing. What confuses me is why they are bouncing to us
and not to the list. Thank bog they are not or else we'd have a
geometric expansion of bounced messages to the list from this account,
but I'm not sure how compuserve knows to send the bounces to us and
not to the list.

I've had the same thing, and I think what happens is that someone on
CompuServe subscribed to the list and has thereby filled up his/her
mailbox (that's what the messages gave as a reason for bouncing the
originals). When new ShadowRN mail arrives, CompuServe looks in the
message to see where it comes from, finds the personal address of the
original sender, and sends it back there.

Mark, could you unsubscribe 100540.260@**********.com from the list for
this reason?

This reminds me of the time about 1 1/2 years ago.
The list got flooded by an e-mail saying "The mail could not be delivered".

Each time the list received a mail, it sent it out to all recipients. One of
the recipients bounced the mail back to the list. The list then sent THIS
mail to all recipients, which bounced it back to the list....

At one point, I was on like and deleting about 20 messages a minute.

Mailloops are nasty things.

I didn't see the one you got though... Strange....

My guess is that they use the From: header

that's what a lotta mailers use
