The Thirty Years War, which ended in 1648 (I don't know for certain when
it began, but it must have been roughly 1618 :)

The Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, started by the French (under emperor
Napoleon III) and ended by the Prussians. Bismarck took this as an
opportunity to unite Germany under the house of Hohenzollern, with Wilhelm
I being crowned German emperor in Versailles.

Luckily, I can :)

Yes, where he lived until 1942, spending much of his time walking and
chopping firewood, apparently.

Yeah, and it was the Viet Cong who eventually won, right?

Not quite... By the early '70s, the NLF ("Viet Cong" in South Vietnamese/US
terms) had just about ceased to exist except as a front for the North
Vietnamese when it suited their purposes. It was North Vietnamese regular
forces who staged the 1972 and '75 offensives; the former was stopped
mostly by US air power, but that wasn't coming anymore in 1975, allowing
the North Vietnamese to win the war and establish one, communist Vietnam
(which was almost the opposite of what the NLF had originally wanted: a
separate, communist South Vietnam).

I don't want to know what the fact that I didn't look up anything in that
post, or the Vietnam one, says about me... :)
