Terry Pratchett (one of my favorite authors) had this to say:

"Out of Print" is bookseller speak for "We can't be hedgehogged".

Chances are the bookseller was looking under FASA as the publisher. Have
him look under ROC publishing.

No, I said Burning Bright, Tom Dowd, ROC. Then a few days later I got a
postcard saying that the book was sold out... Which I don't like because I
want to stick my players in Chicago in late August '55...

A book that goes out of print does not depend entirely on how
long the book is out. It depends on how well it sells and a zillion
other factors. However, I think in this case your friendly neighborhood
bookseller is jerking you around. In the bookstore I work in we have a
program called "Books in Print" Which is updated montly etc. If you
would like I will check and see. If all else fails you can always
contact the publisher.

Yep, I'm going to send my players there too. So, two days ago(4/11/95),
I went to the local comic/gaming shop and bought Burning Bright. I don't
think it's out of print because he usually puts a note on things if this
is the case.

I went to another bookstore and ordered it there. I haven't heard anything
yet (it _was_ only yesterday :), but if they also say it's out of print I

I just discovered that the bookstore where I get my Shadowrun Stuff
will handle orders via E-Mail. And they have several out of print
titles (i.e. NAN 1 &2, PNAE, Shadowbeat, and others). If the powers
that be agree that my providing the name of the store and the E-Mail
address is not advertising as defined by the FAQ, I would be most
happy to post the info.

IMHO, advertising is saying something to the effect of,
"I've got a blucknar for sale, 200 Bleenars or best offer."

If you don't actually work at the store, than giving out
the email address wouldn't be advertising. And even if you
did work at the store, you'd have to go so far as to send a
catalogue or sale news to the list.

Anyway, I'm interested. If you don't feel comfortable
sending it to the list, please feel free to send it to me
personally :)

The Name of the store is Escape While There's Still Time Books
(specializes in SF, Mysteries and some RPG stuff). It is located at
488 Willamette Street, Eugene, Oregon 97402. Phone is (541) 484-9500.
The Clerk that handles E-Mail orders is Amy and the E-Mail address is
amy_c@***.org.
Word of Warning here are few duplicates. they also handle Cyberpunk
and several other game lines.

Hope you can get what you want.

It's just hard to find because it's out of print. Ask to look at your game
store's distributor's catalog - most of the places I've been to use Chess-X
or something like that. Check under FASA and if you see something at the
store that isn't in the book, it's probably out of print. Determine if you
want to purchase that item.

Gurth included a bunch of reviews in Fro's SR Supplemental which may help
you decide what books you might want. You might also want to read a few
messages here on this mailing list and on rec.arts.games.cyber or whatever
the Usenet newsgroup that is and see what others say about certain products.

Oh, and you really don't need to buy DMZ (I've heard it called DUD before).

Yes, and No. It really depends on your area. I live in Portland
Oregon, and I gave a bunch of books to a 'friend' of mine. I figure
I'll never see them again, so I spent a day, calling around town. I
had four diffrent stores transfer product to my local game shop and I
now have in my possesion:

Denver
London
SR 1st edition Hard
NAN 1

> Are there any other books that are really hard to find?

Universal Brotherhood, and DNA/DOA are pretty hard to find. I bought
UB when it came out, but I sold my DNA/DOA about threeyears ago. I
called the store that I had sold it to and they wouldn't sell it
back to me, but they would sell me a xerox copy of it for some
'_serious_money_' the guys said.

I was a bit peeved and informed FASA that they were selling bootleg
copies of out of print material. FASA said they'd investigate it.

You might think about it, or if you have some of the out of print
stuff and other members of this list don't, you might try asking
around if anyone needs any of the stuff.

They might send you some dollars to pick it up for them.

Yup..And I just found a local source for some limited amounts of some
OoP SR stuff..I filled some holes in my collection..the nice thing is
all of the stuff is in excellent shape and is beig sold at rock bottom
prices..Some deranged person decided he would dump his entire
collection..Oh well..I wish I had found this guy before he had gone to
the hobby store..There is a copy of Awakenings for $10 and VR 2.0 for
$8..There is also a copy of Sprawl Sites in the best condition I have
ever seen this book...For a measly $6 if I am not mistaken...

True..Unfortunately..It does have some nice maps though...But is
usually overpriced for just this portion of it..But of course if you
are afflicted as I am with collectors impulse..You will have no choice
in the matter...

Okay folks, I know that my local game store has a number of old and
out-of-print Shadowrun books and adventures. I'm heading there tonight
before I hit the gym and I'll write down what they have and post it to the
list, in case anyone is interested.

I've currently got a deal with Patrick Goodman regarding a few things, but
if anyone else wishes to lay their hands on anything else they have, I'm
willing to work out deals with anyone else, for cash or trade. It's merely
a bit of time on my part.

Once that list is posted, please save list bandwidth and either e-mail me
privately, or if you are getting something from Pantherr (for example)
e-mail them privately. I just know Dvixen is going to smash some heads any
moment now.

That's why I don't like mailing lists that reply to the list instead of

Then get a decent mailer that lets you pick the receipient of the

Okay, as promised, here's a list of the old/out-of-print books that I can
get a hold of. Sorry, no Lone Star and no CorpSec Handbook (recently
sold)(sorry Patrick). All are brand new and in their shrink-wrap. Make
sure any and all replies are sent to me PRIVATELY.

Shadowbeat (three copies!)
Germany (two copies)
Tir na nOg
and also copies of Seattle and Shadowtech, but I think those are relatively
common.

Adventures:
Quenn Euphoria (I'm getting it for myself)
Total Eclipse
One Stage Before
A Killing Glare
Paradise Lost
Double Exposure (two copies)

Someone must have picked up a bunch of older books in the last month or two
because they *used* to have a better selection of old books.

If anyone is interested, in either trade or purchase, let me know
PRIVATELY!! If I could figure out to alter my reply-to field, I would...

Where can I track down a list of all out of print SR game books. To
include the modules as well as the setting books. But not the novels.

As a side point, do any of the novels read better than most 'gaming

Absolutely.

My personally favourites are the four that Nigel D. Findley
wrote, especially the two featuring Dirk Montgomery
2XS and House of the Sun.

I like the feel of Nigel's Shadowrun world. He was certainly
not constrained by the touchy feely political correctness
that tends to invade most gaming related fiction. I thoroughly
recommend them.

Well, I don't know where you can get a listing of all their books, except
maybe on FASA's homepage. It seems reasonable that they might have a list
of everything there, but I don't know for sure.

> As a side point, do any of the novels read better than most 'gaming

I personally liked Nigel Findley's novels. He has a really good style of
writing, as you may have seen before in some of the sourcebooks he's
written (Lone Star, Paranormal Animals of N. America, Neo-Anarchist's Guide
to Real Life, Corporate Shadowfiles, NAN books, and Tir Tairngire, to name
a few). In novels, he's written "2XS" (My personal favorite SR book. VERY
good.), "Lone Wolf", and "House of the Sun". I'd check out 2XS, and if
you
like it, try the other ones.

I still hold anything written by Mr. Dowd is good. More specifically,
"Night's Pawn" and "Burning Bright."

He did a swell job of making his characters transcend bundles of stats.
But if you're not into epic-type Shadowruns, he has a problem with his
novels there --All of them are earth-shaking events (so to speak).

FASA has a list somewhere, but there's also a full list in the ShadowFAQ at
www.pobox.com/~wordman. (I hope within a week, Wordman.....)

Some of them, particularly Nigel Findleys and the earlier books (The first
trilogy and in general the first 10 or so..) are the best, IMO.

can't even think of anything that would relate to this topic. No
wait...oh, no, that'd be too rude - and it doesn't really have anything
to do with the topic. It's just smartassed. Never mind. I'll try to do
better next time.*

The ShadowFAQ (still:() at http://www.pobox.com/~wordman/ShadowFAQ.html,
lists all the books released up until this summer. When the new server goes
up, *grumblegrumble*, it will be updated to include the new books, and I'll
make notations for 1st/2nd/3rd edition, although it should be obvious from
the publication date.

hey all.
well, just thought i would continue my uncommon list outburst and post this.

for anyone looking for out of print shadowrun books, email with what you are
looking for. in the town i am in and the towns that are near me there are a
lot of OOP stuff at the gaming shops we have. since i live in canada most of
it is really cheap. case in point: universal brotherhood, very good
condition $10 canadian. no writing, everything was there. you get the
picture.

so i will search for things for people ONLY if you reply privately to me and
not to the list. my email is below.

i do this because i sort of have a business here. i get in print roleplaying
stuff, for people i know, extremely cheap. i also search for OOP when i
travel so if you are looking for something i will try and find it and get it
to you. we will discuss cost when you email.

ps: this is not a business advertisement <i hope> it is just me wanting to
help listmembers out because i frequent these shops <i live there:)> and i
have the time.
