I had this NPC who was an elven mage with a sword weapon focus. Sufficed
to say he had a typical hermetic personality. Later on however he lost a
limb and had to get a cyberarm. (-1 essence) However after a long
storyline he was captured by a corp and had an untested experimental set
of wired reflexes 3 implanted (-5 essence) This brought his essence down
to 0 and drove him mad. He always fantasized about being a knight so he
started to believe he was one. His weapon focus remained bonded and he
still kicked ass.

What d'ya think o'this guy?

The problem is that you need to have at least 1 essence/magic point left
in order to use a focus. Since 0 essence == 0 magic, you can't use the
focus still.

See ya around the Mulberry bush.

well, that can get questionable, especially if the idea that the Weapon Focus
sword (sorry, snipped that part by accident) were treated as a Geasa....then
at least the last two points of magic loss could be covered....

The last two magic points aren't "covered." Geasa only means that you are
required to use your Geas (or make sure its requirements are met) in order
to use what magic you have left. If you have zero left...
