Shareware is a very viable medium for a sourcebook for Shadowrun,
However I have a question - Why bother?

There is already a very good sourcebook that comes out
electronically every so-often, (The NAGEE - of course). Surely it would be
much better to put the Source book into the NAGEE then you can forget
about the problem with FASA and let the other people sort it out.

Admittedly you are not going to make any money on this venture -
but you are more likely, in the future, to get works published with FASA
in real sourcebooks if you have already had something published on the
subject (admittedly not by them, however.)

This seems like a much more acceptable idea to me.....
