Is the Shadowrun Archive back up at its new URL as yet? If not, will there
be any other place I can watch for the URL to be posted? I joined this
mail list yesterday and I have received 200 messages in the roughly 24
hours since then. I've got to leave so I can get work done.

Thanks,

Tell me about it!That's the ONLY reason I joined this list...to find out when
the archive was coming back...And I've been here a week and had to go through
over one and a half thousand posts...Actually it's been more than a
week...about 8 or 9 days

And now I write,
I joined this also to find out about the return of the Shadowrun archive
but I have also seen and participated in some interesting threads
here... It's sorta fun.

Glad you're enjoying it :-)

The Archive is progressing nicely, BTW. Still no anticipated date as to
its opening, but the early results are very nice, and we're still working
on adding some much asked for features (User registration, woo HOO! :D).

I know the wait sucks, and some of you think we're rubbing your noses in
it, but trust me -- We want the Archive up as soon as possible. We just
want it to have the necessary improvements before it goes online at all, to
avoid any downtime after it goes up.

Well, I'm not even close to an *un*official source of information on
the operations of the Shadowrun Archive, but I would guess that it is
fairly safe to assume that if you cannot handle the list traffic, you
can probably expect to see a message to two posted to
news:rec.games.frp.cyber (if you don't have access to a news server,
you can also access this newsgroup and a large portion of the rest of
Use[less]net through http://www.dejanews.com) on the commencement of
the Shadowrun Archive at it's new location, wherever that may happen
to be. Or you can filter out the messages that don't contain the words
Paolo, Archive and Shadowrun in their body. Or you can browse the list
archives every couple of days and search for all three of the
afore-mentioned strings in the (absurdly large) file. Or you can hit
#Shadowrun on irc at Undernet (which *was* mentioned at the old page,
btw) and ask around. Or you can watch the Shadowrun Webring Message
Board, seeing as the Archive is a member site and Paolo would
(hopefully) announce the resurfacing of the place there. Or you can
change your subscription to digest, so you don't have to read the mail
as it comes in. Or you can wait and bitch about it. I don't care.

Sorry, folks, but it's late and I haven't had coffee in several weeks,
and it's been at least seven hours since my last dose of caffeine and
sugar in the form of a carbonated beverage. Deal.

So I'm little hacked with people complaining about whether or not
the archive will be back soon and how the list bandwidth is too much
for them and ... *Grrrrr*

All the places John mentioned will get the announcement, hopefully within
hours of the new site going up. The order it will most likely happen in:

1. Undernet #Shadowrun: We all hang out there, so we do most of the
co-ordinating of the site via IRC, and being live chat it's the fastest way.
2. ShadowRN/NERPS/SRcard: It's the next easiest. :)
3. Rec.games.frp.cyber and rec.games.frp.announce: Note that the post in
.announce won't show up for a couple days.
4. The Shadowrun Webring Message Board
5. That little Shadowrun web board on www.webrpg.com

Trust me folks -- it will be hard to miss.

A word, gentlemen. Filters. Then check suspicious subject lines. That
shouldn't be all that work, I should think.

Um this might seem like a stupid question but
why didn't the powers that be just leave the old
archive up until the new one was finished???

At least that way those of use that use it regularly
as a valuable resource are not messed up by
the construction.

If you guys would just let everyone know if the old vanity URL:

http://welcome.to/shadowrun

will be redirected from the Interware site to whatever the new site
is, then you could save everyone a lot of hassle. I asked this a while
back, and if there was a reply, I missed it.

Because we couldn't leave any of our sites up at InterWare.it -- it's a
commercial business, and our sites were using too much bandwidth, and
obviously not making any money for Paolo and his business partner.

As for not putting the old Archive online right away at the new location:
InterWare.IT is a NT server, the new location runs on IRIX, so the scripts
and database wouldn't work on the new location without a bunch of tweaking.

So we all decided to take our sites down for awhile, re-tool them, and then
have a grand opening when most or all of the newly relocated sites go online.
