Rather high power level: open house on experience and equipment (I'll
just cheat on all the dice rolls anyway :) )

Background

History

Sakura is the daughter of two wealthy Japanese corporation (Fuchi)
officials. She was born and raised in Seattle. She has two older brothers
that garnered (and still garner) her parents' affections. Her parents have
plans for all three to follow them into the corporation, but are much more
interested in the elder boys than in Sakura.

Sakura received all the benefits of highly-paced corporate parents. She
received a top-notch education, and never lacked for material goods. She
received an honours degree in psychology (sociology minor), and specialized
in group behaviour. By 23, she had an MSc. in psychology. She had been
groomed since childhood to assume a leadership role at the corp. Her life
was *safe*. And she was sick of it.

In hindsight, her teenage rebellion was so archetypal, they could have made
a movie out of it. She was an intelligent, sullen, withdrawn child. She
graduated university, and immediately enlisted with corporate security just
to annoy her parents. She specialized as a recon agent, gathering
information and leaving the messy fighting to others. She progressed
steadily through the ranks of the security bureau.

The proverbial straw was discovering that her parents were using their
influence to promote her faster than her performance and experience would
otherwise warrant. Sakura was furious. The significance of her first move
towards independence had been snuffed as effectively as if they had given
her a 'window job'.

"Well," she resolved, "I won't make it that easy for them this time
around."

As a recon agent, she had already had some augmentation. Her security
position and familial influence got her access to a great deal of resources
and to restricted and experimental cyber- and bioware. She planned, and
underwent surgery, and stashed, and plotted.

On the day she tendered her resignation to security services, she felt as
if a great weight had been lifted from her heart. The sky seemed clearer,
and her family seemed a thousand miles away (okay, so there *were* in
Japan). She had been quietly building a life for herself in a Seattle
suburb, and she simply stepped from her quiet, protected life into a pool
of uncertainty. But it was *her* uncertainty.

She tried, in the beginning, to work as a bodyguard to the rich and
well-heeled. She often served as a escort/bodyguard to well-heeled
businessmen who wanted both protection and a dinner date. That didn't work
out. She was lethal enough, and no-one ever bothered her clients, but she
didn't have the presence, the deterrent that most people wanted. She found
herself short of cash, and adrift ever downwards towards the street.

She finally settled on a dual niche. Her quickness, intelligence, and
stealth earned her a few scout/recon jobs on easy runs, and she performed
admirably. She has a reputation as a competent, if quirky, shadowrunner,
well-suited to stealthy, recon roles. She also has had moderate experience
as a cat burglar. Typically, a client hires her, a decker, and muscle
backup. The decker subverts any electronic security, and Sakura sneaks in
and nicks the goods, slick as you please.

Lifestyle

She has managed to restore her lifestyle to a comfortable middle-class
level. She owns (except for her mortgage) a small townhouse on the edge of
downtown Seattle. She is friendly with her neighbours, and tells them
she's a 'contract psychological consultant.'

She often takes contracts as a freelance private investigator to agencies
or corps to maintain her 'real life' persona. The contracts are usually
surveillance jobs. She has a Seattle and UCAS weapons permit for her knife,
katana, smartlink, and pistol in her role as PI. She always keeps all
weapons concealed, since her best defense is the 'innocent bystander' look.

Her parent's corp has never told anyone about her restricted augmentation,
and they have a tacit agreement that so long as Sakura stays mostly onside,
it'll remain that way. She occasionally does a run for them gratis because
she owes them big for the augmentation.

She occasionally talks to her parents and siblings, but only out of
courtesy, and not because she actually appreciates their company.

Physical description

Sakura is of mixed Caucasian/Japanese ancestry. She is taller than the
average Japanese (male or female) but still slight of build. Her weight
principally comes from her augmented muscles. She wears her long (shoulder
blade-length) black hair braided. She is attractive, and her green eyes
create a striking visage.

Sakura favours long-sleeved, high-collar layered outfits that help her hide
her augmented body and any equipment she might be packing. She eschews
makeup except when her job requires.

Personality

Sakura's personality is formed principally by her intelligence, her
corporate/family background, and her cyberware. Most people with wired or
boosted reflexes are twitchy and perpetually on edge, but Sakura has
learned to temper her reactions and uses her intelligence to monitor her
environment instead of reflexively reacting to all stimuli.

As a result, she comes off as very controlled and intellectual, often
over-analyzing situations. The peculiar balance of wired reflexes and
boosted intelligence makes her manner and conversational style quite quirky
by normal standards.

She is proud of her cyberware, particularly that she is more normal (has a
higher essence) than most people as modified as she would be. She feels she
has struck an ideal mix between augmentation and humanity.

Her family background shows through in her distrust of overbearing team
leaders, know-it-alls, and people who thinks they know what's best for her.
Her natural intelligence is impressive, and boosted, she is almost
peerless. Together, these form an almost god-like level of scorn for stupid
leaders. She can stomach grunts if they perform their job well, but heaven
save them if they try to run her end of things.

In non-run situations, her corporate background has led her to appreciate
people of culture and education. In her social life, she moves in ex-grad
student and professional crowds, since she finds them the most
intellectually stimulating. She quietly tolerates people of lesser
intelligence and learning, but probably won't think much of their ideas,
and might be prone to say so.

Another person might be happy with the simple middle-class life, but her
intelligence and hatred of regimentation drive her to Shadowruns. She
revels in the 'illicit' and 'alive' feelings that surge through her, and
in the out-of-the-ordinary challenge it represents. Of course, the money is
nothing to sneeze at, either. Perhaps strangely, she usually uses her spare
cash to visit archaeological sites and attend psychology conferences.

However, she keeps her 'real' and 'Shadowrun' lives as far apart as
possible. Her Shadowrun life is, of course, mostly illegal, so she doesn't
want her 'real' associates to discover her prize skeleton. Conversely, when
running she is purposely vague about her 'real' life, since she doesn't
need yet another wall between her and the other Shadowrunners. Most people
living in a warehouse don't want to know that your evening's plans are to
have a nice real-food sit-down meal, take in a piano concerto, and hang
with your university pals.
