Well, now that we've gotten this far into it I might as well jump into the
fray:

Changing words like that is just a sexist and chauvanist (sp?) and such,
but only that way towards men. It dosen't really matter, because these
words have no inherent meaning that has to do with men, the word is just
"that way" because "it always was".

For the most part I agree. Changing existing words is pretty ridiculous
to me, and it's quite clear that "manual" was a joke. However, I have no
problem if someone need to call him/herself e.g. chairperson, although I
take that to tell something about the person... probably not my kind of a
guy/gal.

However, does someone have any info on the history of the word "history"? The
STORY part is quite obvious, but did
the HI stand for his in Old English or whatever? Was "hisstory" judged to
serpentine? :-)
