IC runs on the matrix host that you're accessing. Similarly, when you
deck in, you're running your software on their computer. Half the
difficulty in decking is simply to get your code to run on the host, as
determined by their security rating. I expect you wouldn't be protected
from Black IC at all by using a non-standard operating system. However,
it's possible that a host using an operating system the decker is
unfamiliar with would be completely unaccessible...

There's another thought entirely.
Perhaps PenguinCorp keeps all thier networks on the Matrix, but uses
PenguinOS entirely, and doesn't release it to the world. All employees use
a version of PenguinOS in thier decks, and it adapts itself to run on
GenericOS, but not the other way around. Deckers trying to hack in will
have no end of problems, but the corp happily runs on....
