I've got a house rule stating that there *is* a Perception Skill, which
characters automatically receive at half their Intelligence and can raise
(or lower at chargen) for twice the standard cost. Perception is the base
skill used for all perception tests -- except on the astral plane, where
Aura Reading is the base skill.
This is even simpler than the complementary skill rules, and it ties in
with my opinion (gleaned from being around too many smart people) that
"intelligence" and "ability to notice things" are two entirely
different
creatures.
